The final. We're actually in the final of the euros! Do I honestly believe it? No I don't. It's just a surreal moment. Sarina talked us through the teams last night. I was benched, with Ella but with the expectation to come on whenever needed. The letters had made a big difference to me. A new found confidence. We had breakfast as a team, before heading back to our rooms. "How's the nerves Abs?" Beth said. I thought a second before replying. I was surprisingly calm. "I'm not overly too bad, whatever's meant to be, will be." Time came for us to leave, but obviously Beth was still running around looking for gear. It wouldn't be a normal match without her doing this. I sat next to Ella on the bus down, sharing thoughts. "It'll be amazing playing in front of a sold out Wembley. The dream." Ella spoke, the nerves starting to get to her. Like before, she's not good at hiding her emotions. She over talks in this area. We reached the changing rooms, with our jerseys in order. This is where my nerves hit. Right before warm ups. They get uncontrollably bad when we're about to walk out for the game. The warm up was better than normal, the support from the crowd made it apparent. Leah was taking the team talk, but she spoke towards me for one small moment. "Do it for your loved ones, here or not. Make them proud."
The first half was tough to say the least. We both wanted it, were hungry for the title. At half time the score was 0-0. Sarina had planned for Ella and myself to go on at half time, which took place. The whistle blew. We were off. It felt like the fight of our lives. Keira played an absolute belter of a pass to Ella, who managed to lob the keeper. I don't think I've ever screamed so loud. Germany were able to get a score back though. 1-1. We were in extra time. The last thing we wanted was penalties. Lauren had a corner, the box was swarmed. I looked up to the sky, then back at the net. This was mine. The shot from Lucy reflected off the keeper, to my feet. I kicked the ball with all my strength left. The net rippled. We were in front. In the spur of the moment, I took my jersey off, swinging it round me. The whistle finally blew, which felt like an eternity. We had done it. We're the champions of Europe.
Interviews happened, photos were captured. Taking everything in, I sat on the grass. A hand appeared in front of me. I looked up to see Leah, "Come here." She pulled me into a tight hug, not letting me go. I just cried. I just cried into her shoulder. The after party was wild. The British certainly know how to drink. I got pulled away, into a quiet area without seeing who it was. Leah. We stood there in silence for a minute. Neither of us knowing what to say. We both knew what was here, and the potential, but who was going to say anything?
Leah POV
She is beautiful. You know when you can tell how strong a connection is? I just know how strong this one is. Even from that one movie night. I wanted to kiss her on the pitch even, but to my surprise, held back. This is my moment. To be brave. I leaned in, closing my eyes for a split second, reaching Abby's lips. As expected, it was perfect. The chemistry we had was undeniable. We pulled apart for a breath, our foreheads not losing connection. A loud cough came from down the hall. I looked up, with Abby, to see Jordan.
Fuck.
