I just stared at him in amazement.
He thought he could help me. Ha! But I listened anyway.

"My name is Gandalf, also known as the Grey Pilgrim. I am a wizard. Lord Elrond sent me here to help you, since your state is a rare sight. Never before has a human shut themselves in like this and never even cry."
Gandalf looked at me again.

I raised one eyebrow that clearly said to get to the point.

He nodded and continued.
"I have a way I can help you push these memories aside, to keep you from dwelling on the past and to make you focus on the present and future. Are you interested?"

I had to think. Do I want to sit here and waste my life when I could be out doing something else and pushing aside that fateful night?

"Well?" Gandalf asked impatiently.
I opened my mouth and tried to answer, but my mouth and lips were dry. I hadn't spoken in a year.

I licked my lips and tried again.

Every word was a struggle, but I got it out.

"....It's a deal."
