Legolas and I stood back to back with our weapons ready, even though each of us had an arrow aimed at our heads.

Legolas kept shifting his eyes back and forth between different faces of the elves, probably trying to recognize one, but he was the Mirkwood prince, not the Lothlórien prince.

Aragorn just held up his hands as a sign of no harm, even though Legolas and I had shattered any hope of peace with our weapons.

A voice came from behind the circle of elves.
"The Dwarf breathes so loud, we could have shot him in the dark."
A tall, blond, middle aged Elf pushed through the circle and greeted us.
His name was Haldir, he was basically in charge of everything that Lord Celeborn and his wife, Lady Galadriel were not.

Lady Galadriel was the Lady of Light, known for her beauty across the lands.
I wasn't a fan of artificial beauty. That's why I never liked elves very much, except for a select few.

They were immortal and they deceived everyone with their age.
I knew for a fact that Legolas was over 1000 years old, but he only looked to be about 22 in human years.
Haldir must be over 2000 years old because he looked middle-aged.

The whole thing was confusing, and I was a little uncomfortable around a large amount of immortal people.
That's probably why I didn't really like Rivendell.

Haldir's men lowered their weapons and escorted us up some thin rope ladders up onto an array of platforms built into the trees.

It was now dusk, and Haldir was just now getting to official introductions.

Haldir spoke in Elvish as he officially greeted us.

"Welcome Legolas, son of Thranduil." Haldir said respectfully.

"Our Fellowship stands in your debt." Legolas said fiercely, but thankfully.

Haldir merely nodded, taking note of our vulnerability.
He turned to Aragorn and I.

"Aragorn of the Dunedain and Katherine of Rohan, you are known to us." He said, slightly bowing to us.

The Lothlórien Elves knew of me? Ahhh, Elrond must have blabbed somewhere, otherwise I wouldn't be known as Katherine of Rohan.
Just because I was born there, didn't mean anything.

Aragorn was referred to as 'Dunedain'. Being a Dunedain meant that you were blessed with unnatural long life.

Aragorn wasn't immortal, he was just an old man who looked to be about 40 years old.
I knew his real age. I had managed to wiggle the response out of him one day. When he told me, I felt considerably young.
My 20th birthday was coming up and let's just say that Aragorn wasn't even close to my age.

One day while we were traveling before Moria, I had found out the ages of the hobbits. They were all over 33 years old!

I had officially become the youngest member of the Fellowship, but only Aragorn knew my age. And Gandalf did....

Gimli had taken off his heavy stone helmet and now stood next to Aragorn. His ears stood out comically.
Gimli grumbled and said, "So much for the legendary courtesy of the Elves! Speak words we can all understand!" His voice raised to almost a shout.

Haldir looked disdainfully down at Gimli and switched to the Common Tongue for Gimli, Boromir, and the hobbits to understand.
"We have not had dealings with the Dwarves since the Dark Days." Haldir said slowly.

Gimli glared at the tall elf murderously.
"And you know what this Dwarf says to that?"
He then proceeded to say a phrase in Dwarvish, which sounded increasingly guttural.
