"Yes sir."

I slammed the door of my room and sat on the edge of my bed and put my head in my hands.

Why couldn't I focus? I made a promise to Gandalf that I would.

Someone cleared their throat.
I quickly glanced up.
It was Lord Elrond.
He frowned.

"Why are you here instead of training with your instructor?"
I stood up.
"He sent me back here because I wasn't focusing."

His eyes twinkled, but his mouth stayed in a frown. I knew he was proud of me for telling the truth, but angry that I was distracted.

"And why were you not focused?"
I blinked. Is he seriously going to ask that question again?
I sank back down on my bed, my shoulders slumped.
"You know why."

He came and sat next to me.
"You can't stop thinking about this. You must push your feelings aside if you are to complete your training."

I stood up and looked down at him.
"Yes sir." I spat out at him.
I didn't care if he was a lord, or a guardian of Middle-Earth. He wanted me to have no emotion, to not be human.
Fine.

I'll be heartless from now on. And I'll learn how to fight and be a killing machine. Let's see if he'll be happy then.

I walked out of the room and went back to training.
