Maeve stiffled laughter seeing Klaus's frustrated anger flashing in the deadly glare and clenched fists. He sat across from her at a dingy diner on the side of the highway. A greasy half eaten burger and fries sat in a plate in front of Maeve while a bottle of half drunk Beer in front of Klaus.
"Are you enjoying this?" asked Klaus making Maeve finally burst out laughing. She attracted the attention of the rest of the customers, mostly ruggard looking bikers or truckers.
"Frustrating you isn't it? What I am, what I can do?"
Maeve had spent the three months of summer getting on Klaus's every nerve waiting for him to burst. She kept rejecting him every single time Klaus asked her for the truth. Klaus, on the other hand was itching to kill her as well as grown fond of her. She had a peculiarity that, for Klaus, set her apart from the crowd. Surprising himself, he didn't──not once asked her to perform any spell. He let her by herself. He didn't stop her from carrying her iPod or from taking a few books, grimoires from her apartment along for the ride.
Maeve was at odd ends with it. It was confusing for her because she had anticipated a cruel Klaus who would demand spells as the sun rose. But instead, she was on a road trip with two vampires who didn't interfere in her business and didn't let her mind their business.
It had been two weeks since Maeve left Mystic falls. They were at a sketchy motel on the highway resting up for a drive the next morning. Maeve tried sleeping twisting and turning on the bed. When she couldn't, she grabbed her jacket she bought when she got a free span of time when Klaus had taken Stefan with him to "investigate" like he said. But Maeve knew they were gone to talk and then have a kill. She may look naive but she was far from it.
She stood out of the room leaning on the railing in the front. Moonlight was more of a shade because of the clouds that covered up the sky. She hadn't turned this last full moon and it ached her that perhaps she couldn't do it again for a while.
Being a wolf gave her a sense of herself. The question she asked herself almost every day when she thought she was a human, 'Who Am I?' was finally answered when she turned nineteen. The power that surged through her veins, the speed was almost like an addiction for her. When she learnt to control her transformations and take full advantage of her abilities she would change whenever she wanted to. There was at least a week in a month she would change everyday. She gave the reason that she needed to train in wolf form as well but anyone could see right through her lie. She enjoyed it and no one objected it.
"You do realise that the reason we decided to stay at a motel is because you need to rest and unlike vampires you need that." Klaus voice broke her out of her thoughts.
"Yeah and I think I got a bit of rest. I wasn't feeling sleepy so I came out here. What's your excuse for being out here? Don't tell me, you were creepy ass stalking me?" She faked a gasp pressing a hand to her chest, "I thought better of you."
Klaus laughed at her response. Maeve gave him a comical look, her eyebrows raised in surprise, "The Hybrid laughs. That's a first."
Klaus took another step closer to her. He rested his elbows on the railing joining his fingers together. "I do laugh, love. What gave you an otherwise impression?"
"Baiting a teenager at the teenage dance, hijacking the history professor's body, ritually sacrificing a vamp, a wolf and a doppelganger. Kidnapping me and a boy trying to save his brother."
"You came all by yourself, love. I didn't force you."
Maeve sighed in response, "had a bargain to hold up. Nonetheless where are the questions? You surely have them."
