Tension suffocated everyone who sat at the table. Klaus had taken his usual spot at the head of the table. To his right sat Kol and Elijah to his left. Rebekah sat next to Kol and Maeve opposite her. Hayley took the chair, farthest away, right across from Klaus.
"Can we just begin with how unpleasant last night's sleep was?" began Kol to break the tension. But the trickster and youngest among the Mikaelson siblings had other ideas. His gaze narrowed down on Elijah and Maeve. "You two are the reason."
Elijah shifted in his seat and glared back at Kol, but in a more discreet and diplomatic manner, as was his usual style. "Kol, we have more pressing matters to handle. I suppose we direct our attention there."
"Let's start with how Maeve has lied to us these past months." Rebekah's harsh and cold voice could pierce through Maeve and kill her had Rebekah willed so.
Maeve shifted uncomfortably in her seat. She cleared her throat and began, "Let me start with saying how sorry I am for everything I have put you all through."
"Your sorry is not enough," Rebekah snapped, "Why? After everything we've been through, why would you hide it all?"
"Its because of everything that I decided to do this." said Maeve, "That night when I went to the other side and met my ancestors...I met Iona. Mikael seemed afraid of her. She told me about your story. Your life and what Esther did."
"She did the spell, yes but what did you mean when you said that she knew what she was doing and what would happen?" Klaus asked, not looking up from his glass of blood.
"She went to Iona first, asking for help because Mikael was furious that with the loss of one child and wanting to make sure that there was no more death. Iona refused to help, she made Esther realise that there would be repercussions but Esther didn't care, she wanted to do what Mikael wanted her to do, no matter the cost." Maeve sighed and took a sip of her coffee.
"So she did. She performed the spell. She knew you all would face the problem, you would get the adverse effects of the spell...as you know what happened."
A silence dropped over them. Maeve let it sit for a moment before continuing, "Iona saved me from Mikael's fight. He cowered, even apologised for not realising who I was at first. Then Iona told me of what happened to her. What she was for you all. Finn and her..."
"were in love." another voice joined the mix. All heads turned to the door. Alarmingly the chairs were dragged on the floor and all stood up armed. Finn Mikaelson stood in the doorway, hesitant but remorseful. His eyes searched the room, landing on Maeve almost immediately.
"Iona and I were in love. Secretly of course. Freya forbid if father ever realise that I had chosen the Serene witch for a suitor. Harbingers of trouble is what he would say."
Kol snickered, "We are familiar with that."
"What are you doing here? What is mother up to next? Playing a messenger? Casting a trick?"
"I come here in peace, brother. Mother remains unaware of my whereabouts." Finn attempted to reassure his siblings of his intentions but it was much ado for nothing.
Hayley kept a hard look at Finn, as did Elijah but Maeve remained less guarded. "Finn...what did I achieve last night?" she asked, trying to figure out the eldest in the room.
"Reconciliation for one." Kol said, raising his glass. The next minute he found himself gasping as he found his mouth and lips sealed shut with a stitch. He frantically ran his fingers along his jaw and mouth begging for someone to help him.
"Talk of what is between just me and Elijah once more, and I will not be so kind as to have just your mouth stitched." threatened Maeve. She turned to Finn again, "Finn, what did I achieve last night?
