She expects it to be like every other move. Move, make friends, have fun, and finally move again. But what happens when this certain town brings new opportunities for the young girl...

"IMANI HURRY UP!" My mom yells as if she's not in the room next to this one. I roll my eyes at her antics knowing she'll end up slowing us down even more.
I place my finished bowl of cereal gently in the sink as my mother comes rushing into the kitchen. I lean against the counter and watch her in amusement.
She frantically searches shoving things around. I laugh silently knowing I have what she's looking for.
She's looking for the car keys that were left on top of the coffee machine. I had noticed them and am now swirling the loop around my finger.
"Mom, are you looking for these?" I innocently asked reaching my hand that had a grasp on the car keys in her direction.
She turned her head so quickly I thought she'd get whiplash and fall over.
"Oh my gosh, you had them!" She yells snatching them from my hand. Wow, not even a thank you? "Great you've made me late for work." She complains walking out. ME?
"And you made me late for the first day of senior year," I mutter grabbing my bag off the floor and following her out.
I shift past the unpacked lowes boxes and trudge my way outside. I open the door to my mom's Honda Accord and slip into the passenger seat.
Before I could even put my seat belt on she was swerving out of the driveway. I sighed knowing this car ride could be my last.
"So," Mom starts trying to make light conversation, "how do you like the town so far?" She asked taking her gaze off the road for a second before returning it.
"It's nice." I briefly reply. "I know right I really love this place Savannah.. kinda sounds like a girl's name." She trails off now clearly thinking why they would name the place Savannah.
I roll my eyes with a small smile relaxing into the cushiony car seat. She sighs and turns on the radio.
A few minutes later and I'm preoccupied with my phone scrolling on my Instagram feed. A small frown plays on my lips as I look at my friends from other places we've lived hanging out and having fun.
I like them all before my mom's voice sounds through the car, "Alright Imani I don't have all day get your arse out." My mom tells me staring at me with a 'get out now' look.
I turn my head to the window and see the school. "Savannah High, how original." I joke in a monotone voice grabbing my bag off the floor of the car and opening the door.
As soon as I close the door my mom speeds off but not before yelling a 'love you' at me. I turn away from the car that is almost out of sight and face the school.
"Okay Imani, keep your head high, and don't get involved in drama," I mutter to myself. I brace myself and walk up the steps leading into the school.
I notice a sign with the label 'school maps' on it and make my way over there. I try to grab one but a group of boys in my way prevent me from doing so.
It was a bunch of boys- wait should I say, guys? but they act like boys, let's settle with boys. A bunch of boys smoking are in front of it.
I look at them all smoking and joking around and scrunch my nose in distaste.
"Excuse me," I say loudly so I can be heard over the loud jeers. Why are they even this loud? It's 7 AM.
They all stop and turn to me and it's then I recognize one of them. It's skateboard guy. It seems he recognized me too as he stared intently at me.
"Imani?" He asked skeptically and I gave him a deadpan look. I still look the same as yesterday just different clothes so if he cant remember me her may have amnesia.
I stiffly nod and his friends smirk. "Wow, Carson you got yourself a fine girl." One of the goons comments making my eyes widen and a scowl form on my face.
Just as I was about to give him a piece of my mind Carson stepped forward and grabbed me by my arm dragging me inside.
Before we made it into the building I heard his terrible excuse of friends whistling and cheering things such as 'Go get 'em Black' which only made me roll my eyes.
When we were inside I snatched my arm out of Carson's hold and glared at him. "Why didn't you tell them I'm not your girl?" I whisper yell at him to not draw attention to us.
He only shrugs his shoulders in response making me huff and roll my eyes.
"Well since you robbed me of my chance to grab a school map you'll lead me to the principal's office and I won't snitch on you smoking on school grounds," I say and he stares at me. "Fine, and FYI I wasn't smoking." He grumbles and starts walking down a short hallway.
Soon he stops at a door that has a gold plate reading 'front office' in big bold words. I probably could've found that myself. Carson begins to walk away after that.
As I'm about to open the brown door he calls out.
"See you around Imani." He yells gathering some others' attention. Great now people are staring at me. I roll my eyes and stalk into the principal's office already done with this day.
