My father. He was a terrible man, the very man who gambled away all of our familys savings and then fled from me and my elder brother, Nicolas.
Nico and I were on our own and didn't have a stable income. Infact, we didn't have any income at all. When he could, Nicolas would hunt some wild deer in the nearby forest and sell the hides in the market for some cash. Though most nights, I didn't have food in my stomach, I was still happy that my brother was here for me, and didn't just marry me off to a village elder.
I never knew my mother, but im sure she'd be just as rotten as my father. After all, she did get fucked by my terrible father and left her two children alone with him. And even though I didn't know her, my mother, Nico did. When I was much smaller, he would tell me stories about her at night. He said that she had bright golden hair, much unlike mine, and green fox-eyes. She used to sing to the birds, and to my brother, and father. Untill one October morning she vinished, along with her belongings. Currently, Nicolas and I lived in a shabby rundown shack, far away from the other houses. Not for long I'm sure. We couldn't afford it any longer, even if nobody else would dare set a single foot inside of it. If we didn't leave by the coming week then we both would be hanged for defying the law. I dragged my feet along the dirt path that lead to the woods, scuffing my dirty shoes making them even more filthy and sratched than they already were.
Once I reached my usual spot, I seated myself on a large rock- a boulder even. The sun started to set and my favorite time of day was soon to begin. I watched intently as the rays of sunshine sparkled before they passed from sight, bringing day to the other worlds. I swung my feet atop the large stone, and placed my hands ontop of them as I continued to watch the stars emerge from the pure black of the sky. It all happens so fast every time. Once the sun is gone, the moon shows herself and brings her stars with her to decorate the night skies.
I found peace atop the large stone, my feet gently swinging in the air as I observed the stars emerging from the vast black canvas of the sky. The transition from day to night always fascinated me, how the sun gracefully bowed out and made way for the moon and her entourage of shimmering stars, adorning the heavens with their celestial beauty.
Fatigue weighed on me, urging my eyelids to surrender to their heaviness. Respecting my body's command, I let my eyes shut, immersing myself in darkness. This spot had become my sanctuary, a haven where I could escape the clutches of the Vapor Guards and the terrors they represented. Tonight, their presence felt distant and inconsequential.
My senses gradually dulled, the howling wind and the persistent patter of raindrops fading into silence. It was as if time stood still, cocooning me in a tranquil embrace.
