-High king POV-

I sat on my throne, nervously tapping my fingers against the cold metal. I'd done this to myself no doubt.

"Amity Caddell," I whispered her name, just quiet enough so that nobody else could hear. It sounds foreign coming off my tongue.

Soon enough I would save her from whatever watery grave awaits her with Miles.

Honestly, I can't blame her for running from me. I was too harsh on her, even if I didn't mean to be. Stubbornly, I didn't see I was hurting her, even if I wanted nothing more than to hold her and talk. It was embarrassing that I could mess up so direly, especially since I have been waiting for her to see my face since she was only in her first cycle of life.

Oh, but Miles... He knew the games he played, but this time- this time he wouldn't win. I fully intend to claim my bride, and what better time
than the summer solstice?

"Tell the men to retreat. I fully intend to make amends on my own." I commanded my general, Eric.

He nodded and scurried off to send my orders.

This was perfect. So far everything was going according to plan. Just earlier this morning I received news that Esmere was safely led out of Silo and into my land. She now dwells in my castle ready to carry out our plan.

I'm sure Miles thinks she will be after him, which is very convenient since she will not be permitted to leave the palace grounds.

It will be the perfect plan, and I don't care who I have to hurt.

I miss Amity so much that sometimes I think of running after her and stealing her away in the dead of night.

But the key to my plan is that Amity will be at the summer solstice.
