“It’s been two weeks and you’re steady chilling at home, not worried that the girl that you really liked might just replace you?” Gianna raised an eyebrow, looking at Hendrichs through her screen. He’d called her to check on her, and how she’d been doing since they had last seen each other. Yet somehow, the conversation had made its way to Shanae, and how he hadn’t seen her in two weeks, nor swapped any personal messages with her – beyond finding out if she got home safely, and how she was doing.

“We promised each other space to heal, and that we would press play as soon as she got back to Chicago. If we are both happy about it, I don’t really see what the issue is.” He raised his eyebrow right back at her, seated in his office chair. It was almost time to close down the shop, almost everyone had signed out, and made their way home.

“I know your word is valid, and you never go back on it. However, I’m telling you that from a woman’s point of view – if a man is not doing anything to reassure me that we are okay, I am moving on. I don’t care whether a promise was made, there simply needs to be communication in between. It won’t hurt you to call and find out how she is. It won’t hurt you to build on that connection, rather than come together in a few weeks and you are complete strangers.”

“I don’t do long distance relationships Gianna.” He spelled it out for her, “I’ve tried it, it doesn’t work. So, if we come back as strangers, then it was never meant to be.”

“Is that you really telling me that, or your pride and your ego? I understand wanting to protect your heart, but if you really like this girl then I rate that you reassure her of her position. You don’t want to see her dating some other man, and you’re salty because you know it was your fault for letting her go. And don’t tell me you don’t really like her either, because you left me during my birthday celebration make up week, just to see if she was okay.” She sassed him out. All he could do was laugh.

If there was one thing Gianna was, it was being a lover girl. He knew that she lived for romance and wanted to be reassured and whined down by her lover. Hence, she was going so hard on him to reassure Shane. It wasn’t that he’d suddenly stopped caring about Shanae, he’d also started prioritizing his emotions, and principles. There just was a certain anxiety he would experience whenever he thought of reaching out to her – he’d second guess himself a lot. He’d learnt the hard way that people change when there’s a bit of distance, and he did not want to go through that again.

“It’s just too risky in my opinion, I’m just trusting God to do the rest.” He sighed, running his hand over his waves.

“Imagine not applying for a job, sitting in bed, and saying, I’m just trusting God to do the rest. Faith works hand in hand with works, so do your part. I can’t have a cousin who treats the woman he likes like that. Be the romantic man I know that you can be. That’s all I’ll say about it.” He could tell that she had no care in the world as she reprimanded him, and he couldn’t lie and say he wasn’t appreciative of it. The example she’d given him stirred a lot inside his mind, and within his soul.

“Where did you get so much of this wisdom from? You weren’t always this smart G. Must be the old man syndrome.” He teased, rolling his eyes at the thought of what might be happening between them.

She threw her head back laughing. “You cannot be serious Hendrichs. I read books, and watch movies, okay? You’re talking to a hopeless romantic who has high standards, so of course I am wise when it comes to love.” She popped her own collar, and a smirk slowly etched itself onto his face.

“It was just this one-time Gianna; your past tells me otherwise.” He took a jab at her, and her jaw fell to the floor.

“You are so mean! That was so ugly.” He laughed, and she rolled her eyes, a small giggle leaving her mouth, “I can’t believe you’d say something like that about me. I’m never telling you my problems again.”
