Exhaustion. That's what Shane felt as she walked towards the showers. She'd just come back from the morning run up the hill then down, and she could safely say that it was the one thing she did not miss about this job.
Today, she'd run alone, with her AirPods in, and music playing because she simply had a lot on her mind. Last night, after the link up she had with Hendrichs, she'd gotten into her loft and continued tackling her journaling task.
She dwelled upon the fact that she needed to visit Nadia, and finally close that door. She needed to let the fear go, the fear that she's freely handed over for her to use against her. Fear, that she needed to turn into strength — the strength to move past all that was done to her and to forgive, and let Nadia know that she had no hold on her anymore longer.
However, it wasn't easy. Thinking about it wasn't easy, dealing with it wasn't easy. Writing about it wasn't easy. Her dad was onto something, she needed to talk. She needed a support system. She just had to figure out how to balance being independent, and having a pillar of strength from time to time.
She didn't want a therapist, she just wanted someone to talk to. A friend. That's the conclusion she'd come to. That she needed, no, wanted a friend.
Yes Logan was there, but she just couldn't see herself being deep with him. When she wanted fun, and vibes, he was the guy to hit up. However, she wanted a personal person too.
" 'Sup sweetpea," she heard his voice which penetrated right through her thoughts. In response, a small smile came to live, and her eyes lifted —locking with his.
"Hendrichs, such a pleasant surprise! I seriously need to find an annoying pet name for you," she leaned against the wall, folding her arms and watched him look around them before finally connecting eyes with her yet again.
"Safe enough for you?" she lifted an eyebrow, simply amused by him.
"Can't be caught being nice to you now," he smirked, he too leaning against the wall.
"Well, it's not office hours yet, so we're technically still friends. You're not my boss yet." she slightly chuckled when she saw him lift his wrist up and look at the time. It was fairly just after seven, and work hours were from seven-thirty a.m. if you didn't count the morning jog.
"Is that right?"
"You know that's right. Your boys almost done, or, I gotta wait a little longer?"
"I think they are almost done. You're okay? You weren't messing around with Logan like usual." he asked, concern immediately visible on his moisturized face. She could tell that he took care of it, just like he took care of his physique.
She waved him off, "I'm just dealing. I'm okay though, no need to worry about me. Though, I should say, this is the first time I'm seeing you being the first one back at the shop. You usually stay behind and to yourself,"
"I'm finally dealing." he gave her a small smile, and once he heard Mike and Logan laughing — he knew it would only be a matter of seconds before they'd come out, "see you out there Shanae,"
"Chicken," she teased him in response as she walked into the shower room, a smile on her face. She knew he wouldn't walk back in and try to defend himself, and that's exactly why she said it.
She wasn't bothered by the fact that he didn't want Logan or Mike to know about their newfound friendship. She didn't want them to know either, especially Logan because she knew that he'd go on and on about it, and tease her for it.
She simply had to save face. And to top it all off, it wasn't any of their business.
"Welcome back to the land of the living my love," Logan greeted as they got into each other's space. He only had his white towel wrapped around his waist, and so did Mike who kept his silence.
