Mae was looking at him with eyes filled with so much hope and happiness that he knew he was up shit's creek.

Fuck!!

How had this happened??

Well, Phayu knew HOW  it had happened as he stared disbelievingly at the man who had cluelessly created this chaos for him.

Arinya put her hand gently on his arm. She seemed pleased at what she had just heard, her eyes sparkling as she looked at him and then at his mother who was now starting to fight back happy tears.

How had the simple act of grabbing dinner with her at a sushi restaurant a week ago domino'd into this moment where his mom was choking back tears at the discovery that he was in a relationship?

Pai stood there holding back his laughter at this turn of events and the situation that his friend was now in.

"Son, I am so happy to hear that you finally found someone! Why didn't you tell me??" His mother scolded him softly, teary-eyed.

Damn...How had he gotten himself into this?

And what on earth was he going to tell Rain??

ONE HOUR EARLIER

Phayu looked around at the crowd of people in the elegant ballroom. It was a great showing on a Thursday night.

There were over one hundred people in attendance. People of all ages, many whom he had known for years, some were friends who came as a favor to him and others were new faces.

All were wealthy. That was the point.

All of them were dressed up, drinking champagne and cocktails, and gathered to raise money for a good cause.

This fundraiser was for a new Pediatric Oncology wing at one of the hospitals to treat children with cancer and provide financial help and counseling services for their families while they were undergoing treatment.

A very good cause. He was pleased to be able to help.

He watched as Pai effortlessly worked the crowd in the room. He was something to watch. He knew pretty much everybody and was obviously enjoying the party chatter as he worked his way through each group.

As one of the youngest CEOs in the city, Pai had taken over the technology company that his dad had built. He worked hard and was quite savvy at building good relationships with powerful people to ensure he had connections if he ever needed them for his business down the road.
