Keaton

When two guys showed up at my grandparents' house, I didn't question them. They told me to pack two bags. I figured Andre found me until we arrived at this massive house. I wasn't expecting to see Daría or meet other people.

Another girl named Sam sat in the office across from an older guy while two guys stood nearby. I sat in an empty chair while the older guy talked to me. I had a choice. Help them or die. I'm not sure it was much of a choice but a threat.

Afterward, another guy showed me to an empty room to unpack. This brings me to my current situation.

I unpacked my clothes and put them away. Someone barged into my room, making me stop. I looked at Daría.

"It's funny that we meet again. Well, not funny, but pure dumb luck on my part." Daría crossed her arms and shrugged.

"Look, I don't want any trouble."

"Then start talking. You owe me, Keaton. Thanks to you, Andre set me on fire!"

"I didn't think Andre would do that." I shook my head.

"Are you shitting me? Andre enjoys torturing people. He's a sadistic monster. Why would you assume he's this nice guy?"

"I believe Joshua."

Daría scoffed. "Wow, you're dumber than you look. Joshua played you like a fiddle. The difference between you and me is I didn't get hooked on that junk."

I stared at Daría, knowing she was right. She never tried drugs. She only hustled on the streets.

"So, who are you protecting?"

"No one you would know." I shook my head.

"Let me guess. It's some chick you're madly in love with."

I shook my head.

"Oh, right. It's a chick you banged."

I shook my head again.

"Oh, give it up. Your silence doesn't work for me. You met a chick, got hot and heavy, and she dumped your stupid ass."

"It's not a girl."

"You expect me to believe that? Are you daft? Guys like you wouldn't hesitate to get in a chick's pants."

"It's not a girl."

"Then what? Do you expect me to believe you're some savior? Newsflash. Junkies aren't saviors. So, what is it?"

I pressed my lips together while Daría needled me until I exploded. "I'm gay! Are you satisfied?"

"What?" Daría knitted her brows in confusion.

"I'm gay." I glared at her.

Daría stared at me with a blank expression.

I turned my head from her. "Can you leave now?"

"Yeah, sure."

I turned around and finished unpacking my clothes. Yeah, I talked Dexter, Kolton, and Jaylen into attending that party. But I took the brunt of the fallout to protect Dexter's secret. If that makes me the bad guy, so be it. I'll play my part so an innocent person doesn't get hurt.

Something wasn't adding up with Keaton. For a junkie, he didn't act like one. Trust me. I've seen junkies. They're strung out and lie. And they're always jonesing for a fix.

Sam corned me coming down the stairs. "What's up with our new housemate?"

"Well, our housemate is keeping a secret."
