I stood at Bertha and looked at the map of Oakridge with blinking dots. "How did you find this?" I asked Gabby.

"I didn't. Bertha went crazy before this popped up."

I noticed the blinking dots scattered throughout Oakridge. Then I realized the location of the dots. "Shit." I ran from the lab and rushed upstairs to the captain's office.

The captain rose from his seat.

"We need to call the bomb squad."

"Why?"

"I think we found where Albert Bates planted the devices."

The captain's brows lifted in surprise. He grabbed the receiver on his desk and contacted the bomb squad. While the captain issued orders, I called Noland.

I received word from Noland Gray about the devices. I headed to Bates's cell with Ryder and Frisco. Bates was lying on the bed like he was on vacation.

"Get up, Bates!" I barked.

Bates turned his head, sat up, and swung his over the side. "You bellowed?"

My eyes narrowed to a slit. "We found the devices."

"Oh, you have? Grandmother will be so pleased." Bates smiled sinisterly.

"You're no use to us." I turned around, walked to the door, and heard the bed creak.

"Oh, that's a shame since if you touch one, it will detonate the others."

I turned to Bates and trekked back to him.

"I created them to detonate if you disarm one. It's a failsafe."

"Tell me how to disarm all of them."

"I would, but then you would kill me. Now, we wouldn't want that to happen, would we?"

I glared at Bates.

Bates pushed his glasses up on the bridge of his nose. "Now, there is a remote that would disarm the devices. But you would need to find it."

"Tell me where the remote is."

"Nah, I will enjoy my peaceful time while you pick who lives or dies." Bates strolled back to the bed and lay down.

"When I find the remote and disarm the devices, you're dead."

"Good luck. The clock is ticking. Tick. Tock."

I seethed with anger and stormed from the room. I want to put a bullet in that fucker's head.

"Frisco, stop them before they blow up the fucking city," I said.

"You got it." Frisco spun on his heels and left.

I turned to Ryder and leaned into him. "Find Gomez, and bring him to me."

Ryder nodded and left.

I returned to my office, slammed the door shut, and called the family.

The drive took twenty minutes from the facility to the Oakridge police department. I checked in with the front desk and headed upstairs to the captain's office. Once I arrived, Morgan was in his captain's office on the phone. "Hang up the phone."

Morgan lowered the phone and looked at me like I had lost my damn mind. I grabbed the receiver from the captain, canceled the bomb threat, and hung up the phone.
