Chapter 6: Heading Home

After the meeting ended, Sausage got a ride back to Sanctuary the same way he came, except this time, he was leaving with a past version of FWhip. Which was incredibly awkward, considering his crush.

Joey looked just as confused about the sudden turn of events. He had gotten Lizzie's past self in the mix-up, since she needed water and Eversea was right by the ocean. Queen Lizzie of the Ocean Empire was so different from Mayor Lizzie of Animalia that it was hard to believe they were the same person just a millennia apart.

As the boat sailed towards Sanctuary and Eversea, Sausage took some time to take a closer look at FWhip2.

FWhip's past self was a human with bright ginger hair, blue eyes, and a teal streak in his hair. He also had a short beard similar to the one Sausage had. He was wearing brown pants stuffed into a pair of boots, a white shirt with a black jacket on top and gloves, and he had a red scarf and aviation goggles as accessories.

He was honestly quite good looking, but Sausage's crush didn't extend to him. Sausage had fallen in love with FWhip: short, green, colorfully dressed FWhip, and this stranger simply couldn't compare.

An awkward silence had settled over the boat, and no one seemed keen to break it, so Sausage decided to try and liven things up a little, since wasn't that what he did? Take things and make them better? That was the whole point of Sanctuary, after all; to take people who were hurt and running and give them a place to stay and be happy and safe, away from the dangers of whatever they were running from.

It may also be a hiding place from a very specific danger, but as long as he  didn't know where they were, everything was safe, and there was nothing to worry about.

"Who wants to play a game?" Sausage said loudly, catching the attention of the four people on the small ship. When he didn't get an answer, the continued on anyways. "It's really fun, everyone asks a question and then everyone answers it, and we go in circles so that we can all ask questions!"

The silence kept a bit longer, before Joey shrugged and said, 'Well, why not?" That was the turning point, and soon everyone was chatting happily as they played Sausage's question game.

"Favorite thing to do?" Joey asked, and Lizzie answered, "Swimming, for sure. It's so fun to shoot through the water or cruise on the currents." Joey nodded in agreement, and Sausage said, "That sounds a lot like flying. It's amazing to feel the wind between your feathers and do loop-de-loops in the air!"

FWhip had to think about it for a moment, but eventually he said, "I think it's got to be tinkering for me. I love it when I make something and it works exactly like I want it to, and then I play with it a bit more and make it even better."

Eventually Sanctuary showed up on the horizon, and FWhip and Sausage climbed off, waving to Joey and Lizzie as they sailed on towards Eversea. Now that it was just the two of them, the awkward silence came back with a vengeance. Sausage may not have a crush on this FWhip, but he was still FWhip, and Sausage was at a complete loss on what to do.

Thankfully, Bubbles came running up, and Sausage seized the distraction and scooped her up, accepting a few licks as she welcomed him back to Sanctuary.

"So how'd it go?" Bubbles asked as he began walking, FWhip following behind. "Not bad," he replied, earning himself a weird look from FWhip. "We found out that everyone who had shown up was our past selves, but we don't really know why or anything."

"Who are you talking to?" FWhip asked, obviously confused. "I'm talking to Bubbles." Sausage replied, gesturing to the dog in his arms. FWhip only looked more confused, so he added, "I can talk to animals. It's my magic ability."

Understanding dawned on his face, and he nodded. Silence settled over them once more as they walked through Sanctuary's colorful streets towards Sausage's home. However, when they got to the house, they found a surprise waiting for them.

"Is that a... person?" FWhip asked, squinting up the hill. The sun was setting right behind the house, and it shined in Sausage's eyes, making it hard to see anything beyond a blurry shadow standing under the archway of his house.

Sausage and FWhip crested the top of the hill, and the person turned around with a massive grin on his face.
