The demon was back again.
Lizzie felt them spread from the corner of her mind they usually stayed in. They took complete control, pushing her out.
~~~
They opened their eyes. Technically, the cat's eyes, but they were in control now.
Stretching, they looked around at their surroundings.
They were sitting in a poster bed in an artfully decorated room. The cat's bedroom. Getting out of the bed, they rapidly changed into discreet clothing that fit their style better, and snuck out through the window.
The cat's reflexes and grace were very handy, and they jumped out of the window, easily landing on a ledge in the wall. Climbing down from there, they walked out into the empty streets. It was only sunset, but the people had learned to hide from the dark, fearing the shadow creature that now roamed the night.
Fearing them, specifically.
Calling on the dark magic that they now possessed, they used it to teleport to the kingdom of their first victim for the night.
Sanctuary was a beautiful kingdom, and if it wasn't for their dark magic, they would have never found it. Hidden deep in the jungle, a sanctuary only for those who knew the way.
Much good it did them when they needed it. They were going to enjoy hurting this empire.
Even at sunset, the streets of Sanctuary were still filled with people wandering about, visiting neighbors and watching the sky darken. It was no trouble to blend in with the rabbit folk; the cat's fur made them look alike, and the ears were the only noticeable difference at first glance.
Walking up to the home of the king, they walked right in. No security whatsoever.
They could hear chatter throughout the house, someone yelling about doors, someone else playing with something made of fabric.
Muted conversation came from the kitchen, and they walked right by, unnoticed by everyone.
They went up the stairs, where the king of the goblins was carrying a pile of pillows. It took only a second to stab him and push him out of the window, teleporting away as he fell down.
Their next target was Dawn. They didn't intend to kill anyone here, not like in Sanctuary. Just cause a little damage.
Five bombs and several burnt buildings later, they decided they had done enough to the sun empire, and moved on to another empire, and another. It was just after midnight when they decided to attack one more kingdom before giving the cat back her mind for the time being.
Appearing in Stratos, they wasted no time in going up to the floating islands that made up the city of Upper Stratos. It was slightly difficult since they could no longer go near water, but they made it work.
Creeping around, they hid in the corner, watching people rush to and fro, pretending that their lives had meaning. These people were important, but they weren't good enough targets. They wanted to hit this empire where it hurt.
And so they went to the biggest building, the home of the god of Stratos. This place actually had security, so they got to hurt some of the guards on the way in, leaving a trail of bodies that would most likely be discovered the next morning.
The building dripped with wealth, covered in gold and jewels and decorated so extravagantly, their eyes hurt from the light reflected off the sparkly surfaces.
They wandered around awhile, looking at all the shiny things and pretty paintings, until they found what they were looking for. The god and an avian that was probably the emperor of the Lost Empire were standing together on a balcony, arguing about something. They crept closer to eavesdrop, momentarily forgetting what they were there for.
God Joel and Emperor Joey were arguing about who was richer. Of course.
No matter. They would show those arrogant rulers what their wealth could buy them. Leaping out of hiding, they stabbed the avian in the wing, pushing him off the balcony, before turning to face the god called Joel, who was staring at them with shock that was quickly turning to anger.
He began to summon lighting, thunder rumbling above. They had no intention of letting him finish, though. Lunging forward with another knife, they aimed for the god's heart, only for their arm to jerk to the side at the last moment, hitting his arm instead.
They backed up several steps, leaving the god to gape at what was probably the first injury he had ever gotten, and tried to figure out what had made them miss.
It was the cat. She was supposed to be unaware of what was happening, or at least, unable to do anything about it. But she had somehow taken control for a split second, making them miss. Which was annoying. They didn't like having to do the same thing twice.
Making sure they had full control now, they looked around for the god, to finish what they had started, but he was nowhere to be seen. What a coward.
Then a lighting bolt hit them from behind. Their magic shielded them from the worst of it, but the impact was still felt.
The element of surprise was gone. They could still defeat the god, but not in this body. They needed their true form for that. Teleporting away, they resolved to finish that fight another day.
As for the cat, they wanted to shred her mind for the interruption, and she knew it. They enjoyed the fear that was coming from her, although it was undercut by this odd feeling that they couldn't recognize. They didn't like whatever that was. It was powerful, and they could tell it was what had helped the cat fight them off, even if it was only for a second.
She was still useful, though, so they let her live. For now.
Returning to Animalia, they walked around a bit, letting a few villagers spot them but also just enjoying the nighttime air. Eventually the sun began to rise, and they returned to the cat's bedroom before leaving her mind.
Raz was quite satisfied with what they had done that night.
~~~
Lizzie inhaled suddenly, blinking furiously as tears filled her eyes from the abrupt way the demon left her mind. There was no doubt that they were furious with her. Lizzie didn't even know how she had wrestled control from them, but she would do it again, angry demon or no angry demon, to make sure Joel lived.
She hadn't been strong enough to save FWhip, though. And that would probably haunt her for the rest of her life, however short it would be. There was no way he could have survived both the stab wound and the fall, not without serious magic intervention, and no one in Sanctuary had that kind of magic.
She sighed, and began to change out of the weird clothes she was now wearing.
This demon has terrible taste, she thought to herself as she put on her usual, way better looking, outfit.
Lizzie walked out of her room to start her day, trying desperately to ignore the clump of darkness slumbering in the corner of her mind.
She saw Lady Katherine up ahead, watering some flowers she had begun growing. They were pretty, although Lizzie didn't recognize any of them. Lady Katherine sprinkled some sort of dust on them, and they shimmered briefly before fading back to normal.
Walking on, Lizzie stepped out of the town hall, and headed for the magical district. The bookstore opening had been delayed because of everything that was going on, but Lizzie had been going there frequently to read the books and see if she could find anything that could help her current situation.
Hopefully somewhere in those books, she could find a way to free herself and atone for everything the demon had made her do so far.
