It was almost midnight, and Scott, along with Jimmy, were swimming in the fountain.
Jimmy's past self was a cod hybrid, and he apparently needed to regularly submerge himself in water to stay hydrated, instead of just drinking water and moving on like a normal person.
There weren't any lakes or oceans near Chromia, so Scott has suggested the fountain. They had to wait until everyone had gone to sleep for the night, because swimming in the fountain technically wasn't allowed, but if no one saw them, did it even really happen?
Jimmy was a really good swimmer- must come with being half fish, Scott thought, and it was kind of fun to try and pin down the slippery cod man as he swam circles around Scott. Occasionally bubbles would come from under the water as Jimmy laughed at Scott's feeble attempts to whack him for being so fast.
Like, seriously, how is he so FAST, the man is zipping like an arrow!
Scott and Jimmy had become fast friends, and even though they had technically only known each other for a few hours or so, it felt like they had been friends for years. It was odd, but Scott simply shrugged it off and kept on splashing in the water with Jimmy.
Speaking of Jimmy, he was now sitting up in the water and looking at Scott with a mildly concerned look on his face. "Scott, you're shivering." he said. Scoot looked at himself and surprise and realized that he was actually very cold.
The temperature had begun to drop as it got later into the night, but Scott hadn't noticed because he was too busy chasing Jimmy around the fountain. While swimming in the fountain (and breaking the rules) was fun, Scott had no intention of becoming a Scottsicle that night.
And so they climbed out of the fountain and began the sopping trek back to Scott's house. Thankfully, his storage room was on the way, so they were able to grab some towels and wrap them around to protect from the cold as they walked.
Entering the house, Scott and Jimmy split up to go to separate bathrooms and clean themselves up.
Once that was done, Jimmy retreated to his room for the night, and Scott decided to play around with his project.
Scott used to have this fedora that he wore everywhere, a colorful hat with a white feather poking out the top. He had lost it in a liberation in Stratos, before he became king, and he was pretty sure it had been destroyed in his epic escape.
So Scott was trying to make himself a new one, to replace the crown of Chromia, since that thing was hideous.
It was really hard, though. Whenever he tried to put the colors together, it looked garish instead of bright, and his stiches looked like a three-year-old's tantrum on cloth. But Scott had no plans on giving up. He was going to make himself a new fedora, if it took the rest of his life to do it.
Time flew, and before he knew it, it was sunrise already. Scott had stayed up all night trying to make his fedora. He had made some progress, in the form of finally putting two squares of cloth together without burning his eyes out, and he had stitched them together reasonably well.
It wasn't much, but it was progress!
During the night, something odd had happened. A lantern he had next to him had flickered and died, despite it having plenty of oil and there not being any kind of wind. Scott had sat in the darkness for a few minutes, fumbling for a lighter, before menacing whispers has begun from the dark.
Scott had gone still, trying to discern what the whispers were saying before decided whether to scream and run for his life or not. The whispers had gotten more angry, and Scott was about to make a run for it, when something began to glow in the room.
A red crystal Scott had 'liberated' from a ruins in a mountain area was shining brightly, and the whispers, along with the shadows, seemed to shrink back from it. It had grown brighter and brighter, until the entire room was encased in light so bright, when Scott put his arm in front of his face, he could see his bones.
Then he had woken up, gasping for air. Scott didn't remember falling asleep, but it must have happened at some point.
What a weird dream... This better not be one of those symbolic dream nonsense thingy's. I don't have the time or the patience to translate my inner brain nonsense.
After waking up, Scott had went over to look at the crystal that had glowed. It was sitting on the shelf it was always on, radiating innocence, at least, as much as a inanimate object could. Scott had decided to wear the crystal as a necklace, just in case, since it had protected him once, even if it was in a dream.
Scott was already halfway through making breakfast when the cod Jimmy walked downstairs, rubbing sleep from his eyes.
"I smell food," he mumbled, "Give me food."
Scott lobbed a loaf of bread at him, then began to protest when Jimmy took a bite out of it instead of getting annoyed. Jimmy obviously had experience in having food thrown at him, although where you get experience like that, Scott didn't know.
After breakfast, Scott decided to head to the Ancient Capital since he had heard that Pix recently opened a new museum, and he wanted to see what shinies were currently trapped behind a wall of glass and needed liberation.
Leaving Jimmy since he wanted to take a nap (despite having woken up literally an hour ago), Scott entered his nether portal, this time without running into any dramatic, moody, cyan-haired guys with stag horns bleeding out, and began walking in the direction of the Ancient Capital's nether portal.
