"Live a little Belle"
If I heard my friend Lola say that one more time, I was going to scream.
"Lola, I do live a little but the last thing I want to do is go out tonight."
"We've just graduated. We should be celebrating, not moping around. Just a couple of drinks and then we will head home. WE'RE IN VEGAS BABY!!"
Sometimes I hated the people pleaser in me but Lola was right. I'd just spent 3 years at Berkeley in California, so we decided to take a trip to Vegas before I headed back to England. I'm not from America, my family is from England however after the incident that destroyed my career, I just wanted to disappear and live a somewhat normal life, where no one would recognise me. It was also the only place my Dad wouldn't visit, not that he would, he was ashamed to have me as a daughter.
"Hello, earth to Belle" I snap out of the blackhole of my thoughts to see my friend waving her hands in my face.
"Fine, a couple of drinks and then we are heading back"
"Yes, Yes. You are the best" I watched as Lola ran into the bathroom to start getting ready. As I fell back on to the bed, the anxiety of me returning to England after 3 years sent a burning sensation into my throat. The fact I would see my father after 3 years, we'd spoken a few times over calls but I hadn't returned to England nor did he visit me.
The bright lights of the Vegas strip lit up the night sky. It was busy, not like I expected it would be. It was my first time visiting Vegas but Lola insisted it was the last thing we did before I returned to Hell or should I say England and Lola returned back to Texas. How I would miss having my friend around but she had an amazing job offer and my visa was coming to an end.
"ID please?" I searched in my clutch bag and found the shiny piece of plastic handing it to the bouncer who guarded the club. "Thank you, come on in" He smiled as he returned my ID to me before letting me into the club.
The bright lights blocked my vision from seeing in front of me but Lola held on to my hand guiding me through the crowd of people straight to the bar.
"What can I get you?" The barman looked at us both, he was good looking, the rough looking kind with tattoos placed on his body. Just by looking at him, I would have said 98% of his body was tattooed. His longish hair slicked back. He was so fit, who was I kidding. He wouldn't be interested in me. I hadn't been in a serious relationship, I never had time before I came to America. I had a few dates and some one night stands the 3 years I was here but nothing serious.
"Two tequila shots please" Lola smiles at the bartender, my friend could pull anyone not that men bothered her. She strictly liked the females but that didn't stop her flirting with men for free drinks. The rugged bartender returns with two tequila shots sliding them towards me and Lola. Without hesitation I neck the shot back, the burn of the spirit heading down my throat.
"Make that two more" I slam my glass down before ordering more.
Later on in the night, we found ourselves dancing on the dancefloor, the club was busy. Not that we noticed the shots had provided me with a safety barrier of confidence I needed, or you could say tipsy.
"Those guys over there keep looking at us" Lola turns to me, I spot 5 guys staring at us with smiles on their faces talking amongst themselves. They sat higher than us, I think they were in VIP, I wasn't sure my eyes couldn't quite see straight.
"I doubt they'll be looking at us. There are plenty of girls in here" As I turn to Lola she looks behind me, I feel a tap on my shoulder and turn to see a tall dark haired man smiling at me.
"Hi, I'm Pierre. I was wondering if you and your friend wanted to join us up in VIP?"
"Yes, we would love to" Lola pushes past me and starts heading to the VIP area. I could have killed her right now, however again the people's pleaser side of me came flooding out and I also began walking towards me. They all turn to me with a smile on their faces, I can feel Pierre standing behind me.
"Hi nice to meet you. I'm Max and you are?" He comes over to me kissing my cheek before taking a step back.
"I'm Belle and that's Lola" I can feel my cheeks blush, I hated this kind of attention
"Welcome Belle and Lola. This is Charles, Carlos and Lando" I watch as he points to them all, they smile back at me. "You've already met Pierre. Please sit and have a drink with us"
I found the seat closest to the exit of the VIP, I had no idea who these people were but you could never be too cautious. If I needed to escape quickly I could. As I sit down I can smell a strong scent of aftershave and two eyes looking at me. I turn to see the man looking at me, his curls resting on his forehead and his chest slightly exposed through the buttoned down white shirt. I remember Max saying his name was Landon or Lando, not quite sure.
"So Belle, would you like a shot?"
And then that's when the night becomes a blur.
