I heard Lando leave as I laid in bed. I'd not left the room in days but I didn't know how to apologise to him for my outburst days previous. I felt bad for speaking to him that way, truth is I can imagine Christmas with his family is fun but this situation was only temporary and I was scared to be disappointed next Christmas. Crazy I know but when you come from a family that only care about image and money, then you'll understand why I was afraid and reserved. I headed out to the kitchen to grab some food, I soon discovered there was no food. I grumbled to myself before getting dressed and heading in to town to grab some food for the holidays.
The bitter cold wind, froze my face as I walked the streets to the supermarket, the only grace I could get was if I was to put my head down, however that didn't work as I ended up bumping in to someone and falling flat on my arse.
"Belle, is that you?" A hand reaches out which I grab to help myself get up from the floor. "
"Sorry Max, I didn't see you. I was trying to shelter myself from the wind" The world Champion looks to me with a grin on his face.
"It's ok. I wasn't looking where I was going either. I thought you'd of been in the UK with Lando" He looks to me a little surprised.
"Oh I don't celebrate Christmas" I voice.
"Nonsense, everyone loves Christmas plus it's your first one as a married couple"
"I-I...." I burst out crying which makes Max go in to protective mode, placing his arm around me and guiding me down the street.
"Come on, you need to come back to my apartment for a coffee"
I didn't argue, I just stayed tucked in to him as we went to his apartment around the corner. We entered his luxury penthouse, which was truly breath-taking.
"Wow, Max your place is so nice"
"Thanks, Kelly did a lot of the interior. I have no idea about that stuff. Sit, I'll make us a drink" He soon returns with two hot drinks sitting at the side of me on the sofa.
"I'm sorry about this, I don't usually cry on to strangers shoulders" I smile to him.
"You're not a stranger, Lando is a good friend of mine and your his wife so you're a friend of mine".
"Thank you"
"So what was that little outburst about?" He looks to me with raised eyebrows.
"I think I upset Lando by not going with him for Christmas. We had a little disagreement about it and I just don't know how to apologise"
"Because you don't like Christmas?"
"It's not that I don't like it as such, we just never had good ones as kids. My dad always presented us as a loving family at all the Christmas Parties except we were nothing like that. We never got presents, my dad would go away with my mum and we wouldn't see them for weeks and then when he met my stepmother we just didn't see him at all. He hated anything Christmas related as much as he didn't show it when we were in public, it's all about image. " I take a deep breath as Max lets me speak. "I just don't want to enjoy Christmas this year and then next year be back to my own again"
"What do you mean on your own?"
"Oh well anything can happen. I suppose I'm just afraid" Nice cover Belle, at this rate everyone will find out about your stupid little deal.
"I mean it's publicly known that me and my father didn't get along when I was growing up, I get it, it's tough but then Kelly, P, my mum and my sister showed me that there's a different side to life. Why not let Lando's family do the same? You might be surprised. I know Lando really likes Christmas so it would mean more to him to have you there"
I pause thinking about the situation, maybe Max is right. I won't know unless I try, I mean next year I might be training so won't notice how lonely it will be.
"You're right Max. Do you reckon it's too late?"
"Absolutely not. You happen to be speaking to someone who has their own jet. Reckon you could be at Nice airport in the next hour?"
"Yes. Max you're the best" I jump up to hug him. "Thank you so much. You really are the best"
"You're welcome, now go and make my friend happy"
The next few hours are a blur, I managed to pack, get to the airport, board the jet and land in Bristol airport, I didn't even know they had an airport but it meant I could get to Glastonbury and Lando's family home before the night went dark. I was thankful for Max Fewtrell helping me also with the address as I hadn't let Lando get that far with information. The car pulls in to the driveway and I get out, grabbing my suitcase and staring at the massive house in front of me. I hesitate to knock at the front door, I take a deep breath before ringing the doorbell. It felt like forever but a few seconds later the door opens to an oldish man looking at me.
"Hi, I'm Belle. Sorry, is Lando here?"
"I knew you would make it. Come in, I'm Lando's dad Adam, let me grab your bag" He grabs my bag and takes my coat as I pull it off. "If you go through there the family are sat in the dining room. He points to some closed double doors. I watch as he walks down a corridor and I adjust my cashmere jumper before opening the door.
The first person to notice me was his mum, she smiled to me getting up from her seat to come to me. Lando is sat with his back to me, unaware of my presence.
