I was on my way to Australia to compete in the Hardline. I hadn't seen or heard from Lando since the wedding last week. I'd unblocked him from everything that night and was met with 100's of apology messages from him.
That night I walked away, I was beyond devastated. I'd flown straight back to the UK, back to my family. For the first time ever they were the people I wanted to seek comfort in. I then spent the remaining week wallowing in my own pity party. Liss told me that if my heart was breaking as much as it was , then it really must of been a powerful love. Yes it was love on my behalf but after hearing what the bet was, I had no idea if the love was real for Lando. I was so foolish to believe it, but then I would often think he was so good at lying because some of the stuff we experienced felt so real.
It was two weeks later and I decided I wasn't just going to mope around eating dry cereal in the same jogger bottoms and that I was actually going to use all this pain for something. That's when I signed up to the Red Bull Hardline. It was an extreme mountain bike course that was due to take place in Australia in 3 months time, right after Isaac's wedding. My father had been so supportive getting me vital sponsors and Isaac and Luke had been training me for the course.
The morning of the competition I felt sick, more nervous than I did before any of my previous races. I suppose it was because these courses were a lot more challenging than just cycling around a velodrome.
I'm getting ready in our tent, before it was my time to go on the course. It was a time trialed course and I was last. Imagine been last, people either remember you because your last or they remember you because your last and lose.
"Hey Belle, someone's here to see you" Isaac smiles to me. I turn to the tent hoping it was who I wanted it to be but I was slightly disappointed when it wasn't.
"Oh my god Valterri and Tiffany, what are you doing here?"
"We were in Australia and we saw on Instagram you were competing so we wanted to come and support you" Valterri responds.
"Thank you so much that means a lot"
"I'm sure you will be great out there Belle" Tiffany smiles. "We will leave you to get ready"
I say goodbye before heading back, sitting down and letting out a little sigh.
"You wanted it to be Lando, didn't you?" Isaac looks to me as he adjusts the pedals on my bike.
"That obvious?"
"Yes."
"I thought after the wedding, he might of come after me. Then again he probably thought I'd abandoned him after I didn't return"
"It's not your fault you got locked in the toilet. If what you told me, he would be a fool not to fight for you"
" I wanted him to fight last time, to prove it was real and he didn't." I pause for a little "Anyway lets focus on what's ahead"Before I knew it, it was time to take my place at the start line at the top of the hill. My heart was beating out of my chest. I couldn't hear the cheering around me, I was just focused. This was the first I was competing since the Olympics trial at the start of the year.
The light goes green and I just go for it. Slaloming down, jumping over jumps, jumping down sheer drops. The adrenaline kicked in and I felt alive, I pushed and pushed. Once last jump to go and it was the biggest. I think for that last moment I just held my breath until I landed. I landed safely and crossed the finishing line to the roaring cheer of the crowds. I stood waiting to see where I placed. Had I been quick enough?
"Belle Tenby takes first place with a 1:27:051, she wins the Red Bull Hardline" the announcer shouts.
I stand there in shock until Isaac comes and screams in my face.
"YOU FUCKING DID IT!" He grabs me in to an embrace.
"I did it. I actually did it" I look to him with tears in my eyes.
"Belle that was amazing. Well done" My dad hugs me tight. "I'm so proud of you"
"Well done sweetie, we knew you could do it" Liss hugs me.
"Thanks everyone" I smile. I couldn't help to look around to see if I could see him, but I couldn't. I would have loved to have shared this moment with him. After all he was the one that encouraged me to do it. I couldn't help but feel sad and that it had kind of taken the moment from me, not that I was going to let that show to anyone.
"You need to head to the podium now" Isaac smiles.
I head over to the podium to receive my first place trophy.
"And your winner BELLE TENBY" The announcer screams and the crowd goes wild. I take my place on the first place step. They begin to hand out the trophies starting with third place, I look to my family who are standing in the distance. They weren't alone, as my father steps aside, I see him. He's standing there, with his baseball hat on backwards, a pair of shorts and a t-shirt with my face on. His face is beaming with a smile, he couldn't contain how proud he was. I couldn't help but smile back, he came and that meant more to me than anything else in this world. It made this moment truly amazing, that was the man I loved and will continue to love. I graciously take my trophy putting it high in the air as the crowd cheers. I couldn't get off that podium fast enough, heading directly to him as he headed to me.
"You were amazing. I'm so proud of you Belle" He smiles as he gets to me.
"Shut up and kiss me" I place my lips desperately on to his. How I had missed this.
"Does that mean I'm forgiven?" He looks to me as we pull away from each other.
"Erm, I'm sure you can show me everyday how proud you are of me" I smile before pulling him in for another kiss.
