"You've put the seat on backwards" I look to Belle who is sat on the floor laughing at my mistake.
"You told me to put it on that way" I respond before loosening the bolt and putting the seat on the right way.
"It's because we are hungry, we've been at this for two hours"
"How about we leave this, order some food in and watch a film instead. We can continue this tomorrow"
"Sounds like a good idea" She jumps up from the floor, placing all the remaining screws and instructions on the dining table.
"What would you like to eat?" I look to her as I scroll through my phone.
"I'll let you decide, I don't know where is good to eat here"
"Ok, how does Italian sound?"
"Sounds good"
I order the food swiftly whilst Belle is sat looking out the window, whilst sat on the sofa, the evening sun shining through the windows of my apartment.
"That's ordered." I throw myself down at the side of her on my grey L corner sofa.
"That view is beautiful." She smiles as she looks outside.
"It really is. It was one of the main reasons I bought this place, it was the view that sold it for me"
"I used to love the view from my families home, my room used to look out on to fields and my sister had horses that I could see roam from my window"
"How old is your sister?" I look to her.
"Darcy, she's 23, she's much nicer than Nate. She's an actress, currently living in America with her Fiance who is also an actor"
"Do you have any siblings?" She looks to me for an answer.
"I am 1 of 4 children. I'm second oldest, we have my brother Ollie who is the oldest, then me, my sister Flo and then younger sister Cis" I adjust myself to turn her as her attention falls on to me "My brother Ollie is married to Sav and I have two nieces Mila who is the oldest and then Athena that was born earlier this year"
"I don't have any nieces or nephews but Darcy does have a sausage dog called Luigi"
"What's your favourite animal?" I ask her.
"Oh for sure Goats" She laughs.
"Why goats?"
"I just like how they play dead, headbutt stuff and the screaming noises they make have me crying. Did you ever see the videos of the goats and Taylor Swift?"
"Yeah" I chuckle remembering.
"What's your favourite animal?"
The door goes and I jump up to grab the food. I close the door behind me placing the takeaway bag down and grab two plates from the cupboard and begin to dish up the food. Belle comes over to the kitchen island and observes as I serve the food.
"That smells delicious, looks good too. Do you need me to do anything?" She looks to me for an answer.
"You get the drinks and I'll take this to the dinner table"
She comes over bringing two drinks, sitting down and begins to eat. We eat in a comfortable silence before Belle jumps up grabbing both our empty plates and placing them in the dishwasher. I come and lean on the counter as I watch her load it up.
"Belle, what's your relationship like with your father?"
"Woah straight to the hard questions" She smirks. "I'm going to need a stronger drink for this" She heads to the worktop, pouring herself a red wine in to the wine glass. "Do you want one?"
"No I'm good thank you"
We both head back over to the sofa and sit where we did before, this time Belle is looking directly me towards me with her legs crossed up on the sofa.
"My dad wasn't always like what you've seen. We actually used to get on really well. When I was little I had a crazy obsession over bikes and loved to cycle. My dad saw this and when I was about 6, I got a coach who helped me develop my cycling. I competed from that part on, he would be there at every qualifying, race, he was really supportive. The more trophies and the more my ranking went up, the greater our relationship. He was happily married to my mum, Darcy was in Ballet and well Nate never really had a hobby, it changed all the time. It then came out years later my dad had been having an affair with my now stepmother and I kind of lost all respect for him, we constantly butted heads about me competing. My mother forgive him and he said he'd ended his affair. The day I crashed in Italy was the day I found out my dad had lied and he'd already drawn up divorce papers to end his marriage to my mum. I just couldn't focus at all during that race and crashed, injuring myself and stopping me from any change of competing in the next Olympics. My father was ashamed of me, he said some stuff and that's where our relationship kind of fizzled out. I enrolled in to colleague the very next opportunity and went to America. I hadn't seen my father for 3 years, it was the first time I saw him after our Vegas wedding."
"What happened to your mother?"
"She's travelling, she turned to mother nature. Quite literally. I don't hear from her often, when I do it's usually a quick update and that's it."
"I'm sorry that happened to you"
"It's ok. I've learn to live with it. That's why I don't want my father to know I want to compete again, I'm just not ready to be part of that side of my life"
"That's why Nate was blackmailing you?"
"Yes, he's my dad's shadow, he loved the fact I was no longer my dads sole focus and he ended up going in to the family business and hates me. It's fine though my grandparents always check in. My Grandpa founded the business, my dad then took it over. Then my Grandma, she's got every news clipping and photograph placed in the house, she couldn't be prouder of us all."
"And they're your dads parents?"
"Yeah, my mums parents died in a car accident when she was 15 so I never met them"
"Oh I'm sorry. Stop saying sorry. Your not to blame for my messed up family. What are you parents like?"
"My mum is Belgium and cared for us kids and my dad has his own business but usually comes to most of my races. I have a really good relationship with them and my siblings too"
"They sound lovely."
"I'm sure you will meet them when you're ready. They're already asking but I didn't want to put pressure on this...situation"
"I get it." I watch as she looks to the uncompleted bike at the side.
"Are you excited to get on the bike again?" I look to her, as she sips on the wine.
"I am. My coach Isaac is amazing, he's been really good to me. I'm surprised he took me back, I kind of disappeared after my crash. He tried to message me but I just wasn't ready to be part of that world. I just wanted to live a normal life where no one knew who I was"
"I'm sure he's glad to have you back." A silence falls between us both.
"I'm going to head to bed. I'm pretty tired" I watch as she gets up, placing her wine glass on the side.
