It's been hours since the dramatic events of the day occurred, and the alpha still hasn't returned yet. I laid in my new bed, wide awake. I couldn't stop thinking about the hurt in Randi's eyes after I let go of his hand.
"No, you've done the right thing." I tell myself. He deserved it.
I repeat in my mind. But why was it eating at me, also why was I worried that he still wasn't here. I turn to the clock on the night stand that read twelve-fifty two. Where was he?
Feeling restless, I get out of bed and walk to the window; a small part of me hoping to see him. I bite at my nails nervously. Staring at the small dot of blood I laugh at myself.
Why did I care if he returned or not. He was a grown man and a terrible one at that.
Returning back to bed I pull the covers onto of me. Taking one last look at the clock I close my eyes and force myself to sleep.
----------------------------- Next Morning
I wondered if Silver would come in, and force me to get up. I decide to beat her to the punch.
Finding a towel and wash cloth I run a nice hot shower and bathe for nearly an hour. I wanted to believe that yesterday events would wash away down the drain.
Hurrying to dry off and put my clothes on. Now I take a seat at the edge of the bed contemplating whether or not I should just walk out or wait for someone to come and get me.
A good fifteen minutes would past before I realized nobody was coming. So I head to the door, I take a deep breath, I open the door. I come face to face with Zayne.
"Damn, you okay?" He grabs me by my shoulders and asks with a slight smirk.
"Yeah I'm fine."
"Good. I was just about too knocked. I figured since you hadn't come down yet that you were still a sleep. Breakfast is ready."
"Yeah, about that, I thought Silver or someone was going to come."
We just stand there for a few second just looking at each other.
"We should probably get down there. I hate cold food." He jokes.
Once downstairs I let him lead the way into the dining hall.
Now my calmness turns to nerves and fear. As we set down to eat, my eyes focused on the image of Randi who was already seated at the head of the long, oak table.
"Oh, I forgot to mention. He'll be joining us today, unfortunately. "Zayne whispers in my ear before taking his seat.
Not wanting to be near him I choose a seat closer to Zayne but just as I was about to sit Randi spoke.
"Leah I would prefer if you sat closer to me." He insisted.
"Uh?" I look between him and Zayne. Zayne motions his head toward Randi and mouth, "go!"
"Here will be fine." Randi says. Patting down on the chair near him. Randi stands and pulls out the chair for me.
"Thank you." I mumble and take my seat.
"You may eat whatever you like." He says softly. I had to admit I was really hungry but I didn't want to pick out a lot, Then again I was super hungry. I don't know why but I felt as if I could eat everything in sight.
But being the stubborn person I was. I only choose a piece of toast with strawberry jam. There I take a bite in silence.
"I'll be leaving tomorrow." Randi spoke. Both Zayne and I turn to him.
"Why?" Zayne ask.
"The neighboring pack alliance meeting has been called. Cyrus the Alpha of River hawk pack has called together an emergency meeting. There seems to be a serious threat in the area. Many of their members have disappeared lately. He fears it may be the work of Trappers."
"Hunters?" Zayne repeats.
"What are Trapper-Hunters?" I ask confused by all of this. Where was all this coming from?
"Hunters are humans, men and women who have been around for centuries and since birth have been trained to hate and kill us. They do exactly what their name suggests, trapping and hunting beings like us. They're the reason why so many packs have been wiped out."
People like that exactly exist?
"I want you to come with me Leah."
"What?" Both Zayne and I question his motive.
"You can't take her there with you it's not safe!" Zayne barks.
"She's my mate and I want her there. She'll be under my watch, I won't let anything happened to her."
"Are you listening to yourself? You can't take a human girl to this meeting."
"I've already decided." He states with finality.
"Alpha?" A guard approaches. "You have a very important call waiting for you."
"Who is it?" Randi asks annoyingly.
"No disrespect, but I think you should take the call sir." he bows.
I turn to Randi. He sighs and rubs the bridge of his nose. Something I've noticed he does when he's irritated.
"Excuse me, while I take this call."
Randi simply nods his head and looks one last time over his shoulders at me, before he and the guard disappear.
Zayne throws his napkin on the table with frustration. The room was filled with awkward silence.
