RANDI POV

I repeatedly tap my pen against the ebony desk as I look hard at the photo of her.

They think I was a fool. I knew exactly what they were trying to do. I know my brother and his whole belief on mates. He despised what I'm doing. He wouldn't do it himself. My wolf whines within me.

A knock comes from the door. I placed the crumbled the photo under some papers. "Come In." I call. I return to my work.

"I remember when it was the other way around. When it was you begging to come in." The strong voice of my father speaks. Realizing who it was I stand up and bow, in respect of my elder.

The older man comes in, closing the door behind him. Taking in a deep breath he walks around the room.

"I see you've completely gotten rid of all my things."

"Of course I did." I joke dryly, coming to his side.

"But, I did keep one thing." I open up the vintage cabinet that contained all the liquor. I grab us two glasses and pour a drink. He takes it and walks to the desk and sits in my chair. I watch as he takes a sip. I do the same and lean up against the fire place.

"How does it feel to be an alpha?"

"It's not as easy as I thought." I bluntly answer, taking a sip from my glass.

He laughs. "It never is." He looks down into the glass he held.

A silence falls between us.

"Is there something you wanted? I'm quite busy with preparations for the special event tomorrow. "

"That's actually Why I came to talk to you son." He says placing his glass down on the table. "What exactly is this all about? .....I do hope it's not what we think it is."

"What exactly do you think "it" is?" I cross my arms.

He stares at me for a moment. "Randi, I have stood by your side since day one with you But this has gone on for too long now. We all sat down and let you have your fun with Camila but-"

"Fun?" I snap, interrupting him. "She isn't my escape from boredom."

I continue. "I have loved Camila since I was a boy. I'm not going to give her up just because some human girl unfortunately turns out to be bonded to me!"

"Watch your tone. You may be the alpha but you'll do well to watch yourself. No matter your position or age you are still my son and you will show me respect."

"Now listen to me. This can only last for so long. What will you do when she finally finds her mate? You truly believe she won't leave you for him."

"Camila would never do that. Our love is stronger than that."

He shakes his head then drinks. My eye twitches and I stiffen as he seems to notice a corner of the picture sticking out. It was nothing I could do. He moves the paper and holds it up.

He places the picture down and returns his eyes back on at presence. He gulps down the last of his drink before standing up and coming my way.

"Whether you want to listen or not it's up to you. But just know if you don't snap out of this trance you're in. You might lose the only person who will ever love you." He holds his hand out. Looking down it was the photo of her. Grabbing it I look ahead away from him, before he leaves.

With little effort I throw my glass into the wall. Many pieces of sharp glass fall to the floor.

My chest puffed up and down with anger.

I take one last look at the photo, before balling it up in my fist and tossing it into the fire. I watch as the orange flames destroy the picture, a small part of me actually cared.

I will not lose this game.
