Meanwhile, back at the river, the heroes, Riley, Tony, Terry, and Brenda are on the shore, soaked. Penny is off-line. The EMP has shut her down. Ruby, Weiss, and Winter check her out while trying to bring her back online. Ruby is worried, but Weiss comforts her to let her know that she'll be okay. Tony is by Brenda, keeping her warm from the cold of the water. Sora and his friends look around, but don't see any fires. That means that the mountains and rocks shielded the blast inside the mine. Riley then sees Terry shaking from the cold from the water. He walks to her.
Riley: Hey...it's ok. (Kneels down to her)
Terry: Oh, my gosh. We set off a nuclear bomb.
Riley: It's ok. The walls shielded the blast. No radiation leaked out.
Terry: Look at my hands. Why are you shaking like that?
Riley: 'Cause they're cold. The water was freezing.
Terry: That's not normal. And Brenda is shaking too.
Riley: It's ok. We're just cold. We're all cold. (Rubs her hands) Just need to get warm. Ok? Alright? (Points at the water) Hey, look. See the butterflies there?
They all look, and see the butterflies flying over the water.
Tony: Yeah. If there was radiation around, they wouldn't be able to survive, now, would they? Not even birds can survive it.
Riley: No. (Rubs her arm) Alright?
Terry: I guess not.
Brenda: But how come birds can't survive the radiation?
Tony: Because the radiation is powerful. And even they can't take it all. They absord it, and they die.
Riley: (Turns Terry around to face her) It says so in the detonation manual that if you see butterflies after detonation, you're gonna be fine. Ok?
Terry: (Looks at him, chuckles) It doesn't say that.
Riley: I promise you, though, we're fine.
Tony: Yeah.
Sora: (Walks to them) So, what now?
Riley: Well, let's rest for a couple of minutes, and then, we'll go ahead to see if there's anything out there that is part of Deak's backup plan. Like I said, he'll be prepared for that.
They all agree of it, and then, after resting up, they all walk down the river.
Riley: (To Terry) How far downriver does this path go?
Terry: 3 or 4 miles.
Riley: We should be able to get to Deakins before he gets out of here.
Winter: And we're gonna need blind luck if we don't wanna run into any trouble.
Just then, the Heartless shows up, appearing from the ground. They surround them.
Donald: Heartless!
Yang: Here we go again!
The heroes all summon their weapons, and charge at the Heartless to fight them as Riley, Tony, Terry, and Brenda stand back with Namine and Penny. Since Penny is still offline, Namine has to keep her safe. The brothers watch the heroes fight the heartless with all their might, while protecting them. Tony and Riley check their guns, and see that they're empty. They both sigh, and throw them away. Sora and Kairi swing their weapons, and take down several Heartless. The rest continue fighting them with their moves, and powers. Then, they take them down. They collect the money from the ground, and continue onward. Meanwhile, Deakins, Kelly, and Gilson are still driving down the road, heading for the river. Gilson keeps his eyes out for any more trouble. He fails to see darkness coming off of Deakins. Back at the river, the heroes continue walking down the path, and then, they spot something ahead.
