Chapter 25

Max's POV:
I lay down on the sofa, thinking about tomorrow. It's the first day everyone's gonna be back after everything. Maybe I'm not ready yet, my vision still isn't as good as it used to be. Everyone's gonna know what happened, I was on the news for gods sake. They're gonna think I'm a witch, coming back from the dead.

El laid beside me and I jumped, being brought back into reality. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." She said, turning to face me.
"It's all good, I never get scared anyway." I answered, facing her too.
"Mhm, that's why you jumped like you just got caught doing something you shouldn't be. Were you?"
I shook my head, "No, I was just thinking."
"About what?" El asked, tucking my hair behind my ear.
"Maybe I'm not ready to go back to school yet. I hated it before, so imagine how much I'll hate it when everyone looks at me, thinking I came back from the fucking dead or some shit."
"Well, didn't you?" She asked playfully.

I sighed, "You know what I mean El."
"I know, but I'm sure you'll be okay. Will and I are gonna be there too so if anything happens we'll deal with it." She kissed my nose gently and I gave her a small smile.
"Okay." I said.
"You're gonna be fine." She assured me again.

"Well, what about you?"
"What about me?" She repeated, confused.
"Aren't you nervous?"
"Very. I just hope it's not gonna be like California. At least I have my powers now."
"Mmm, true. Are you gonna make people go flying?" We both laughed.
"I will if I have to." She giggled.

"Everyone we better head to sleep now, we gotta wake up at 6." Will said.
"6, are you joking me?" Mike asked.
"There's 6 of us that have to get ready so..." Will explained.
"Fine with me." Lucas answered.

I turned back to El who smiled at me. "You're gonna be fine, don't worry."
I gave her a small smile back, "Just- just stay with me okay?"
She nodded, " I will, you've gotta show me around remember?"
"Oh yeah. Hopefully we don't Miss Allens this year." I said.
"Oh my god she was such a bitch." Mike agreed.
"Come on guys, we have to sleep." Will reminded us.
Dustin groaned and put his pillow over his eyes, "I wish we were back in middle school."

We all talked between us for a bit and El was the first one to fall asleep. After that we all eventually fell asleep.

The next morning, I was woken up by Dustin screaming. "It's 7 am! Why is it 7?!" He shouted.
"Be quiet Dustin." El murmured, snuggling closer to me. I just then noticed her arm around my waist.
I blushed and Mike woke up. He rubbed his eyes and looked at the clock, suddenly he was screaming now too. "Holy shit it's 7!"
"I've been saying that!" Dustin said.
"Can you all shut up!" Lucas shouted.
Will was the last to wake up, and he didn't scream like the others. "Everyone stop screaming, I have a headache."

"It's 7 am! We're one hour behind schedule!" Dustin said, quickly getting up.
"We still have almost 2 hours to get ready. Who wants to shower first?" Will said, standing up too. Why has he had such a growth spurt?
"Me!" Mike said, already running up the stairs, "Haha El!"
"Oh fuck off." She groaned. "Don't take an hour like you always do."
"I have to make sure my hair is soft! Just coz you don't have any-"
El threw a pillow at him and I giggled.

"Don't be surprised if you wake up with a buzz cut tomorrow." She said.
"Awwh, we'll be matching!" He mocked, running around the corner before El threw a book at him next.
"Okay everyone else, we can make breakfast." Will said, clapping his hands.
El unwrapped her arm from around me and sat up, rubbing her hands on her face, "I wanna go home." She whined.
"This is your home though?" Dustin asked as I laughed, standing up.
Lucas folded up his blanket as he spoke up, "I'm kinda feeling pancakes."
"Same." El agreed.
I gasped, "Is El not having eggos for once?!"

She chuckled, "I'm a new person." 
We all went into the kitchen and El and Will got the ingredients out. "Okay, so first we have to make the batter." He said.

We were all showered and dressed, and surprisingly we were ready to go by 8:30. "We should head out, we have to get our new timetables." Will said, damn he's responsible now Joyce's gone.

By 9, we reached the school. We all took our skateboards, and the boys were getting better. El helped me on mine the whole time, holding my hands as we made our way down the pavement.

Thank god we were all in the same lessons, except for in PE of course. First we had English, so we went to that.

"Okay students! I know this past year has taken it's toll on us all, but we expect the same high expectations!" Mrs Hitchens said.
Lemme tell you the seating arrangements while she babbles on and on. So, from the window on the left it goes, Me, El, Will, Mike, Dustin, Lucas.

Lucas was pissed all the seats next to me were taken, but he had no choice but to sit where he is right now.

"As you all probably know, we have the honour of having Maxine Mayfield with us!" Everyone looked at me and I gave them a small smile. Also, the teacher needs to shut the fuck up. Acting like she didn't make my life hell last year.
"She was unfortunately a victim of last year's terrors, but has miraculously made a speedy recovery." I fought the urge to roll my eyes.

"But that's not all! We have 2 new students with us, Jane and Will. Please welcome them with open arms." They all turned their eyes to them, and I giggled lightly as El blushed red. "Today's gonna be all about settling back into school, but tomorrow we're going all in. I'd like you each to make a presentation on your heroes, someone you look up to."

I noticed Will quickly look at El, who's face had paled. Is this the same topic as the one with Hopper? Oh, I think I get it now. She said her hero was Hop and got bullied for it. My poor baby.

The lesson continued on and Mrs Hitchens gave us all the necessary equipment to create our presentation. It could be on the projector, a poster, a visual aid, anything.

After hours of listening to monotone voices and being introduced again and again, the day was finally over.

We all went into the car park, and the boys had to get home before their parents got worried. Will went home as well, and I told El I wanna go to my house, so we went there on the skateboard.

"Are you going back to physio now?" El asked as we entered the trailer park.
"Tomorrow I am. Nancy has to pick me up at 4 and we come back at 6." I answered.
"Oh okay." She said.
"Why did you ask?" I asked, confused.
"I wanted to see if you could hang out one of the days. But I know it's tiring so-"
"I can hang out. How about... Wednesday?" That was 2 days from now.
She smiled, "Sure. I'll come pick you up." We reached my door and I grinned.
"Sounds good. I'll see you tomorrow."
"Here's your board." She picked it up and handed it to me as I unlocked my door. "I'll wait for you in the car park."
"Bye Ellie." I pulled her in for a gentle kiss, and I b,usher as we pulled away.

She giggled and gave me one more quick kiss before walking back down the street. "Bye Max!" She waved as she turned the corner.
I shut the door and lay down on the sofa, a wide smile on my face. God, I'm so in love with her.
