Chapter 33

The car slowed down on the side of a highway a man got out of the passenger seat and opened the back door to the backseat were the brother got out pulling out Penelope she was knocked out.

Sonic and Shadow stayed hidden in the forest across the highway were the criminals were once they saw Penelope being dragged out sonic got out of his hiding place but shadow pulled him down "shadow let me go i can take them!" Sonic pushed shadow away he had a strong grip on sonics arm and be was planning to keep it that way "if we take them down now we'll never figure out were they're trying to take her there could be more people involved." Shadow said sternly they both still had a job to do and all of the criminals needed to be turned in Sonic relaxed a bit but seemed skeptical "fine."

Lastly a woman cane out from the drivers seat Shadow squinted his eyes to get a better look at the woman to see if she was the same lady from the party but she wasn't she had ginger hair put up into a bun, Sonic thought she would have also been a hostage since she looked so nice that was until he saw the lady screaming at the two men clearly annoyed with both of them. The two men carried Penelope into the forest while the woman lead the way taking this as a chance Sonic cut through the highway passing up many cars that drove by one nearly hitting shadow since he had never let go of sonic, once they reached the other side of the highway ducking behind the criminals car shadow really debated on letting sonic go and just to hold back his barf again then to let this hedgehog play crossy road in real life and it most definitely won't be cars they'll be dodging this time but he could take a bullet or two so he wasn't all that worried though it would suck if he died like that.

Shadow peeked through the window of the car seeing gun cases he opened the door wich was left unlocked sonic gave him a confused look "shads what are you doing?" He whispered looking into the car as well watching as shadow opened up a gun case to find it empty guess he thought too soon

Shadow continued rummaging around in the car all the cases he found were empty he looked under the seat he found another black case and a cloth he could already tell what that was used for since he was already able to smell the distinct scent of chloroform in the car no wonder the lady was mad there was obviously a struggle considering how messed up the car was, there was a hunting knife inside the case it wasn't a gun but it was something. Shadow kept the knife in its sheath and hid it in his quills "i want a knife too" sonic said shadow gave him a serious look "you don't get a knife hedgehog" shadow responded "why not?" He crossed his arms "i can hold a knife" shadow also crossed his arms it was hard for him to believe the hero could hold any type of weapon let alone be willing to use it on anyone "sure you can" shadow said sarcastically carefully closing the car door to avoid making too loud of a sound.

"But i really can" sonic was persistent he felt the need to prove that he could just so shadow would see he was wrong, shadow dragged sonic along ignoring his last comment he knew the hedgehog would be persistent but he wouldn't give into that wether or not Sonic actually knew how to wield a weapon he just didn't want to see him with one for whatever reason he just felt deep down that he didn't like it.

They both caught up to the criminals making sure that they were trailing far behind to avoid getting noticed but the longer sonic and shadow followed behind them the slower time went by, and naturally sonic was getting impatient they've been following behind the kidnappers for at least ten minutes and he was wondering wether or not if there even was a base he even debated on if he should just sneak up on the criminals and take them down and bring Penelope back to her parents but shadow kept him in check making sure he didn't do anything rash, after a few more minutes passed the criminals started taking another route getting off of the straight course they were originally following and went int a large clearing shadow stopped following beginning to get suspicious. Sonic stopped walking as well once he felt a tug on his hand as shadow was no longer following "what's wrong shads?" He whispered keeping his voice low "i think they know we're following them" shadow whispered back "they can't know we've been really quiet so how could they know?"

Suddenly the only woman of the three raised her gun into the air and fired three bullets into the sky "listen up we know you're here so come out and 'maybe' we won't kill her. Just maybe." She yelled out just to make sure that her threat was heard

Shadow glared at sonic "okay so maybe they do know.." sonic said immediately taking back his words, he had jinxed it and now this was going to be a real problem for the two hedgehogs.
