Chapter 35

Not too far away sonic could hear the marching of oncoming soldiers, GUN soldiers to be specific.

They came and took the criminals away and confiscated all the weapons, Penelope was brought back home safely to her family, though the party had came to a disappointing end but GUN made sure it appeared like nothing severe took place and assured the guests that the problem was handled properly, then lastly Shadow and sonic were now free to go leaving the rest for the commander to handle

They both Chaos controlled back to the cabin and finally got rid of their suits and went back to their original trademark clothing, then immediately afterwards went back to sonics home after what felt like forever, the first thing thing sonic did was collapse onto the living room couch "it is so good to be home" he said stretching letting himself relax "get up sonic, we need to check miles progress on the antidote" Shadow said tugging on sonics hand to get him up, earning a groan from the other who was still lazily laying on the couch but did eventually get up.

"Tails hey buddy!" Sonic said bursting into tails lab which was the garage with shadow right behind him, the kit diverted his attention from his task looking over to his brother "hey sonic hi shadow" he said running over to the two hedgehogs "so how's the antidote going?" Sonic asked as he ruffled tails' bangs receiving a little giggle from the fox "it's going great, but there is a problem.." tails' tone shifted sounding a bit serious "a problem?" Sonic repeated.

Tails nodded making his way back to his computer were he had charted down all of his data he waved the two hedgehogs over urging them to take a look

sonic and shadow looked at the screen, it was like looking at a whole documentary were there were paragraphs and paragraphs of words "i might have gotten a bit carried away" tails laughed a bit embarrassed he slid the mouse scrolling through the paragraphs until he found the one he wanted them to see, both of them read the single paragraph and were shocked it was visibly shown on sonic face that he was uneasy about what he just learned but shadow kept himself composed as usual and went out and said what was on both of their minds "so we can die if we're too far from one another is what your saying." shadow said abruptly

"correct and as you both can already tell the celestial rose isn't good for your health, so depending on what stages you're on there can be many symptoms" tails said walking over to another desk were his other equipment was laid out "what's the different stages?" Sonic asked

"there are three stages, stage one is when two or more hosts are first introduced to the celestial roses dust and have entered their systems, stage two is were the distance between the hosts can be from another have been drastically cut and if the hosts try and go farther from each other then they're supposed to be it causes drowsiness, vomiting, and/or nausea" tails said simply feeling proud in himself for now being completely knowledgeable on this new subject "what's the third stage?" Shadow asked this time "we don't have to worry about stage three too much since you guys are only on stage two, but the third stage is: death" tails said flatly "what!? So we just die??" This information clearly wasn't taken well by sonic he didn't want to just die over something like this.

"Well yeah, since the celestial rose thrives on heat it takes any type of heat it can meaning it feeds on your energy and body warmth that's why it wants you guys close to each other, so when you're on stage three you feel sick kinda like when you have the flu but there's no antidote for it when it gets that far" tails shrugged his shoulders moving stuff away on his desk out of the way then grabbed a cooler that had sat under it placing it on top "but luckily i already have the antidote made so you guys can take it right now" tails said opening the cooler that was filled with ice "there will be some things the antidote won't be able to cure though, but i tried my best so the side effects weren't too.. severe."

Tails dug through the ice in the cooler pulling out an orange pill container with only two large pills inside "so that's the problem? The side effects can't be all that bad, what's the worse that could happen?" Sonic asked laughing a bit "well..the worst that could happen is you could lose your speed and shadow could lose some of his chaos abilities, but it's unlikely so don't worry" now that just made Sonic nervous, he believed in his brother but he wouldn't know how to live if he ever lost his speed the thought alone scared him he could only imagine how freaked shadow must feel, he's gotta be worried about the possibility of losing his chaos abilities. "Maybe I shouldn't talk so soon I don't wanna jinx it" sonic chuckled

He glanced over at shadow to see how he was doing only to find he was still the same nonchalant shadow as always, guess it was only sonic that was overthinking all this

Tails handed them both a single pill "you might feel drowsy after a while so I advise that you guys should go sit down in the living room" tails said shadow nodded in understanding "thank you miles" shadow said genuinely grateful for the foxes help "yeah, thanks tails you did great" sonic said as well earning a big smile from the kit he was just happy to help.

the two hedgehogs listened to tails' advice leaving the garage and coming back into the house to sit on the couch, they both sat beside each other it took sonic a moment to realize that they were both still holding hands since at this point it became a habit he just somewhat hoped it would stay that way "you okay?" Shadow asked noticing sonic had zoned out for a second "yup never been better" he smiled, shadow eyed him for a moment before rubbing it off  placing the pill into his mouth swallowing it but sonic seemed hesitant as he ate his pill, shadow gently squeezed sonics hand as a small way of comforting him even though it might've been a bit out of character for the anti-hero he didn't want to see sonic so uneasy "thank you" sonic said feeling slightly embarrassed. Sonic no longer felt nervous thanks to shadow and he was happy he had a friend like him, he leaned back into the couch seeming completely calm now but he couldn't help but think there was something wrong with the pill because his heart was beating really fast.
