Such a magnificent cocktail of traditional and modern methods, was something unexpected to Kunal, especially when it came from a spy. He wondered why she had been assigned to a shitty manager, when she deserved so much more. Spy or not, he needed such talent in his team and he was sure Karry & Jay would agree with him too.
Come on man... Just say something. Yes? No? Maybe? Sammy thought as she waited for Kunal. Restlessness grew in her with every passing second compelling her to speak up. One, two, three... Swallowing the dry lump of her throat, she nervously asked "So... Umm... What do you think?" Her expectant gaze met Kunal's, who twirled a pen in his hand.
Nodding he exclaimed, "Excellent!!" and stood up from the chair. "The concept in a way is .... Unique - if that's the right word. I think we can take this up further with some modifications here and there" His intense eyes met hers making her elated not just because he was a godhead, but also the first person to acknowledge her work.
"You really think so? She reluctantly asked.
"Of course, this concept is worth experimenting." Jay answered, now out of daze.
"You want to take this up?" Kunal asked Karry & Jay, who nodded immediately. "They are like my very personal ... R&D guys." He told Samaira with pride-filled eyes. The deep in his eyes that shone bright like Sirius and face covered with a broad smile made him look annoyingly charming. Seemingly full of life, when he explained the next course of action covering each corner of the room, she smiled vacantly, wondering what had gotten into him. "What?" he asked confused.
"You are looking like a ping pong ball right now." She snorted and suddenly all eyes were on her. Pausing abruptly, she blinked at the three men, who now looked at her as though she had grown two heads.
"This is me in 'work mode' for you" he said with a straight face. "Coming back to the presentation, I'll let you know soon as these two are done with their part of research. Cool with that?"
"Yeah... I think..." she nodded unsure of how long her happiness would even last. Jass would get fumed up soon as she discovers Sammy's coalition with Kunal and the possibility of she reporting Sammy to her boss, or boss's boss or even the super boss, couldn't be ruled out. If that happened, Kunal would obviously save his ass first rather than looking out for Sammy, which wasn't wrong, since she might do the same if her job were at stake. Karry & Jay took their leave and with a sigh Sammy frowned, eyes meeting the carpeted floor.
"Something's troubling you" Kunal stated. "Let me guess, it's your manager... What was her name again? Maze? Haze?... Daze?" And before he could come up with anymore rhyming names she said "Jass" though she thought, all the other names suited her quite well too. It was strange how he perceived her thoughts every single time. Is he a Psychic? Who cares...? The way he spoke was so funny that she couldn't help but smile, despite her dismay. "Right... Jass. I'll take care of her. All you need to do is concentrate on this project." He assured. But the question was, how exactly was he planning to take care of her? Mind your own business Sam and let him handle Jass because you would only mess everything up. Her inner voice suggested.
"Fair enough" she began collecting her things. "I'll make a move then." Waving a good-bye, she started towards the door, when Kunal blocked her way asking, "Wait... Aren't we a team now?" Absurd as it sounded, Sammy gave him a questioning glance.
"Are we?" She asked.
"Of course, we are. We've already started working towards taking this project further and together we are going to make it happen." Kunal knew he couldn't be upfront with her. He couldn't let his guard down, not as yet. But then, how was he to take care of his urge to be with her, touch her, feel her and do everything else he's not supposed to with a spy? "Look, I am always that 'considerate' colleague with whom everyone loves to work and now that we are a team, we need to care for each other, like teammates." He elaborated, more to himself.
