"Shit!" She sprung off the sofa, gazing up; Kunal stood there in his half-asleep state, rubbing his eyes like a little kid.
"What happened?" He vaguely inquired not noticing her panic.
"Are-Are you spying on me or something?" She yelled, with no idea where that thought even came from; her heart pounding louder than a pendulum clock.
"Why would I do that?" Bewildered with that accusation, when ideally, he should've been the one to question her.
"I didn't mean to say that. You just... scared me though" she justified. "Why did you get up so soon?"
"I heard a loud noise. So, I came out to see." He pointed at her phone. Knowing her fault, she felt bad for yelling at him.
"Sorry.... I should've closed the door." She spoke in a low tone. "Do you want to sleep for some more time?"
"I might as well help you."
"Why don't you freshen up while I make us some coffee?" she suggested and without another word, he went for the bathroom, while Sammy went to the kitchen to make coffee. Once back, he flopped on the sofa next to her, to review the slides. She handed him a mug and asked "What do you think?"
Sipping his coffee, he looked at her and said, "It's so refreshing. I loved it. You make amazing coffee." Sammy snorted like a pig "About the slides I mean."
"Oh" Kunal blushed and looked distinctly adorable. He would've made an excellent boyfriend. BOYFRIEND? This is so not happening. Boyfriend was an out-of-her-league kind of a creature for Sammy; not once had she thought about having one. Coughing up her snorts and indicating him to get back to work, she slid a little away from him, without he noticing. It was rather necessary to distract all her fancy thoughts, before they made a palace in her mind. It made her realise how dangerous it was to be in such close proximity with him.
Later that evening, they reviewed the slides one last time before closing the laptop. Kunal offered a drive to the hill, after relishing on some pizza. Sammy thought her over worked body in all fairness deserved a break, so she agreed instantly. Was that the case really? She didn't want to know and nor did Kunal.
They drove to the hill, after buying coffee on the way. The climb up the peak after a hectic day and overfull stomach was tiring, but they somehow managed. The little forest was pitch dark at night; the only noises she could hear was that of Kunal and crickets. He walked past the trees like a forest beast in the dark, while she trailed behind rather clumsily. By the time they reached the top, she panted and gasped for breath, while Kunal stared at something in the distance. Overcome with inquisitiveness, she stood right next to him trying to discover what had caught his interest.
When her eyes followed his, they almost popped out her head. The view in front of her was even more fascinating, than what she had imagined it to be, the first time she visited. Suddenly, she remembered how she thought, he hadn't heard her comment that day. Maybe, he did hear her and that's why got her there to witness it herself.
Hearing her gasp in astonishment, his eyes freed from the trance and locked on her lips. Man, how alluring they were; like cherry blossom in its peak bloom. When he hadn't found any spy cams in her house, relief had washed over him and a small ray of hope had peered through his heart. How much he wished for her to be her, not some silly spy.
Dumbfounded and fascinated, not just to see the twinkling city lights that shone brighter than stars, but also the fact that Kunal heard her, she blushed. How much she wished for him to open his heart to her. But then he would expect the same, which meant unleashing her past and that was as good as committing suicide. That... is a really bad idea; I will have to learn to hide my emotions. Ironic as it seemed, she had unconsciously clasped his arm as she sorted her thoughts, planning to maintain her distance. When she glanced at him, she caught him gawking at her lips.
