TRAINING GROUNDS

The pulsating noise of the cadets' boots filled the air, as they completed their laps on the ground.

'Chalo chalo jaldi karo.' Faizi called out the cadets.

'Oye Faizi sunn.' Karan called out from besides him his hands crossed at the chest, eyes on the cadets.

'Bolo.' he replied looking at his janabji.

'Yaar Faizi, aaj jab mai Dr. Mahajan se mila...' Karan continued to tell his encounter with Dr. Mahajan.

'Kya army posting?' Faizi asked in surprise.

'Haa par mujhe samajh nahi aaraha, matlab Juhi aunty ne army mai serve kia hai woh patah hai par Dr. Mahajan?' Karan questioned 'Maine unse poocha bhi tha par unhone taal diya. Tujhe kya lagta hai?'

'Karan, humme toh lagta hai ki Dr. Mahajan kuch toh chupa rahe hai, shayad unke beete kal ki baate. Lekin iska solution humaare pass hai, bataye?' Faizi asked.

'Bata.' Karan said turning towards his best friend.

'Ek kaam kariye, jaake unse hi puch lijiye. Dudh ka dudh aur paani ka paani hojaayega.' Faizi said giving a smile.

Karan looked at his best friend with a look of utter irritation. 'Abbey oh saandh, agar itna aasaan hota toh kab ka puch leta.'

'Haa soh toh hai, toh phir ek aur solution hai.'

'Nahi rehne de tu solution, nahi suicide missions de raha hai.' Karan said and walked away towards the cadets.

'Agar madat leni nahi hai toh puchte kyu hai.' Faizi muttered to himself and walked over to the cadets and trainers.

ONE WEEK LATER

It was the night before the exams for the cadets were about to commence. Nearly all the cadets were in bed, but sleep was far away from their eyes.

Monami and Sid were on the terrace garden walking, or rather Sid stood looking at his agitated best friend who walked back and forth in nervousness and anxiety.

'Monu yaar chill kar sab theek ho jaayega. Take it easy bro.' Sid said catching hold of her and making her look into his eyes.

'Kya easy Sid, agar mujhe kuch yaad nahi raha toh? What if mai exams mai acha nahi score kar paayi? Sid mujhe Best Cadet ka award chahiye, worst cadet ka nahi.' Monami continued to blabber nervously.

'Monu bache shaant.' Sid said, while cupping her face with both hands 'Tu na bohot smart aur intelligent hai. And I'm sure tu school aur medical college ki tarah yaha bhi top karegi. Khud pai faith rakh bro, you will give your best I'm sure. Aur tu toh Karan ki aur iss academy ki best cadet hai na?'

Monami nodded her head in agreement with an innocent face.

'Acha chal, sone jaate hai.' Sid said swung his arm over her shoulder.

'Sid mai thodi der yaha aur rukhti hu, fresh air milegi mind apne apne calm hojayega.' Monami said.

'Toh mai bhi rukh jaata hu tere saath.' Sid said while looking at her in worry.

'Sid, pakka mai theek hu. Bas thodi der yaha rahungi mere plants ke saath and you know I'll be fine.' Monami assured him.

'Ok mai jaa raha hu, par tension ke maare neend mat kharab karna. Kal exam hai and you need to be fresh for it.' Sid reminded her, she nodded in understanding.

'Chal good night. Aur zyada der tak yaha baith mat.' Sid said as he kissed her forehead and left, leaving Monami to her thoughts.
