Kill Or Be Killed

You woke up to the sound of Weiss barking. You look to the side and saw she was gone.

You: oh shit.

Half-light: you need to get out now.

You: is there an intruder?

Half-light: I don't know. But that dog is barking like crazy.

You get out today bed and grab your gun. You open the door getting ready to kill anything in the office. But all anxiety left when you saw it was just Lucy playing with Weiss.

You:"how did you get in?"

Lucy:"you keep the door unlocked."

You:"well what are you doing here?"

Lucy:"you said I could come by if I just wanted to see Weiss."

You:"I forgot."

Lucy:"but sadly I didn't come here to see her. My boss has another job for you."

You:"great."

Lucy:"you impressed him last time you came and he wanted you to help again."

You:"alright, let's get going."

He walked to the door but Lucy stayed.

You:"come-on, let's go."

Lucy:"I'm staying here."

You:"why?"

Lucy:"someone needs to watch Weiss."

You:"fine I'll go by myself.

Lucy:"you hear that Weiss? It's just going to be me and you."

Weiss: she barks happy.

You feel a smile on your face. But this time it feels genuine. Not the fake one you put on. But it fades the moment you leave the office. You fake another smile. You arrived at the Merc's base and went inside.

David:"hey (f/n)."

Maine:"you know this kid, detective?"

You:"his mom helped me when I was dying."

Maine:"hey, where's Lucy?"

You:"she's at my place."

David(empathy): he looked hurt.

Empathy: maybe he had feelings for Lucy.

Maine:"nice."

You:"no no no. She's taking care of my dog."

David(empathy): he looked relieved.

David:"you have a dog?"

You:"I found her yesterday. Anyway, what do you want me to do?"

Maine:"there's a job I want you, David, and Rebecca to go on."

You:"what's special about this job?"

Maine:"it's David's initiation into our gang."

You: if I have to keep doing this I should ask for payment.

Authority: then ask for payment.

You: what do you mean?

Authority: you're not a Merc and after the last job you went on it's best to have some compensation.

You: I don't want to make him angry or have him laugh it off.

Authority: you're a man. You need to stand your ground and ask for payment.

You(authority):"I will do this only if I get a cut."
