(Takes place between the transition from the second book to the third book)
A calm silence spread over the room as Diedre watched anime and Nico beside him read a book.
As much as Diedre loved reading books and had a collection to rival the Athena Cabin, he loved anime too much. He focused his eyes, not even blinking with the game with Inazuma was on. God, he loved Haikyuu.
Nico sat beside him, he looked up and said, "Hey Dee, I wanted to talk to you about something."
Diedre nodded, but he greedily took in the last sight of Kageyama doing a setter's dump before pausing and saying, "Yeah, tell me."
Nico hesitated a bit but Diedre pushed on and said, "You know, this is a non-judgmental space."
"Give me a second," Nico said.
"Of course, take your time."
Nico took in a deep breath and said, "So you know, how usually a boy likes a girl, right?"
Diedre hummed.
"What if I say I don't like girls?"
"I would ask whether it is specifically only girls that you don't like or like you can't like anyone romantically."
"I can't like girls romantically," Nico said as if he himself was not able to accept the fact and then curled onto himself as if he thought Diedre was going to hurt him.
Mentally, the Diedre sirens were blaring. Here, Nico was confessing about being gay and he looked so small.
Did he really think Diedre would hurt him? Well, it was to be expected. Nico was from a time when they were not accepted.
Diedre wrapped his arms around Nico and said, "I know, you are from a period where they were not accepted but to me," he paused, ruffling his hair, "you know you'll always be Nico diAngelo to me, the boy who is obsessed with Mythomagic and fights with Percy all the time even if you don't follow the 'convention'."
Nico's arms wrapped around him and Diedre was again doused with the cold water of reality. How this small boy was forced to fight monsters.
"Thanks, Dee," Nico's muffled voice sounded out.
"So who caused this sudden realisation?" Diedre said, grinning but internally hoping that it was not Percy.
"Will."
Fudge, that was so cute. Was Nico already developing a puppy crush on Will? My gods, Diedre was going to scream. Solangelo was going to be a reality so fast and it was all because of him. He might have been reactionless for so long that Nico added with panic, "I know that Will and I haven't known each other for long but he's one of my best friends and I love spending time with him."
Diedre tried to speak but Nico continued, "I know as an older sibling you would not like your younger sibling to date but he looks so pretty. His blue eyes sparkle when he laughs, his hair shines in the sunlight and his smile could light up the whole world."
Whoa bro, Diedre just hesitated because his OTP was sailing. He didn't ask to be listening to poetry about his own brother.
Diedre moved to his automatic mode: teasing. "Well, at least I know your feelings are genuine. So do you like need help to woo Will? I can give you his mom's number. Our house is usually pretty safe from monsters so you can call him up and stuff."
"I already have his number," Nico said, blushing.
Diedre squished his cheeks and said, "Gosh you are cute, he is cute and both of you together would be the cutest in the world."
(OMAKE)
"Hey guys, if I say I'm bi, what will you say," Will addressed the cabin.
"Hi bi, I'm your brother," Diedre deadpanned from his bed.
"Woah bro, we understand you are the dad friend but this is too much. Dad jokes really?"
"We love you, we accept you and nothing can stop us from loving you if you now will be making jokes," Diedre continued.
"What hurt you today Dee?" Michael joked and said, "But yeah, what Dee said, we love you and accept you because that is what family does."
A hum of approval rang out before Diedre answered, "My anxiety may be chronic, but this mouth is iconic."
