Deek had agreed he would store the phial in the thestral's enclosure for me when the time came, and he would go and collect it when it was time for my transformation. Keeping in line with the "no human's feet" rule. My tongue flicked the mandrake leaf still securely fastened to the inside of my cheek. I walked straight from my visit with Deek to the common room , acting on Professor Onai's advice. I hadn't really had time to digest what I had seen in the crystal ball. And all I could do was hope that Luka hadn't already worked any of it out either.
One thing was for certain , I thought to myself as I stormed past the few student's in Slytherin's common room. Luka now knew I had a gift. Which in turn meant Ruby would also be made aware. The only saving grace was that by dropping my walls while having a premonition it meant Luka had seen nothing else. He hadn't seen mammy or the owl or the red flash of light. He hadn't seen me digging under the tree of my old home, and Ominis apparating right to that very spot, somewhere in the future.
He hadn't seen that I knew he was reading my mind. I suspected he had guessed as much, considering his behaviour and his threat of painfully breaking down my rookie attempt at Occlumency. I could tell as a natural legilimens that once it was all was out in the open he wouldn't hesitate to just push right past everything I'd building in my mind. For him it would be like blowing down a house of cards.
I flicked open my journal in the empty dormitory quickly scribbling down everything I had seen, deciding I would deconstruct it later. I had bigger fish to fry in the meantime. As I changed out of my uniform I heard students scuttling off for dinner. As it was Friday night I knew most of my year would be heading to Hogsmeade and the like, spending their weekends partying , getting high and falling in love. As they should.
I looked at my reflection in the mirror, she tutted at the sight of me. Black hair had been scraped on top of my head and resembled somewhere a crow would call home. My skin was missing its sallow tone, looking paler than normal, dark blueish circles under my eyes from a few nights without dreamless sleep. I rustled around in the cabinets pulling various bottles and containers an gathering them in front of the sink.
"And what are you doing?" I saw Ruby in the mirrors reflection. Long body gracefully draped against the doorframe. Her full pink lips curved in a cruel smirk.
"Are you going to be making a habit of sneaking into the bathroom when I'm in here, Ruby?" I commented taking a whiff from one of the bottles.
"I might. It's such a rare sight to see you in front of a mirror. Got a date tonight do we? Luka not wetting your whistle anymore?" She was holding her nails close to her face turning her hand around inspecting her cuticles as she spoke.
"No date tonight. Not yet anyway." I answered. I did have a plan , but I wasn't about to tell anyone what it was. Much less Ruby Sloan.
"Oooh...Kitty Moore, scheming and plotting. Maybe you do belong in this house. You'll want to start with that bird's nest on your head." She looked in the mirror , nose turning up as she examined the mop on top of my head. It looked so much worse as she stood behind me, glossy ,reflective ,white locks poker straight by her face.
"Yep that's the plan-" I answered firmly , refusing to bite back. "Shame I lost my hairbrush. Would've been a good start." I made eye contact with her this time as I spoke. A flicker of something flashed across her face. She looked as if she was about to walk toward me , but she stopped herself , and instead turned and walked away.
After twenty minutes in the mirror I had completed the mammoth task of looking presentable. My hair clung around my waist, curls bouncy and large, I had cast a glamour charm over my face, now healthy and glowing. I stripped from my uniform and instead swapped my misshapen white shirt for a tight black satin one. I had treated myself to a black pair of dragon hide trousers over the summer and squished my hips into them , jumping up and down to use gravity to my advantage when sliding them up my body. Their leathery feel tight to my legs made me appear like what I wanted to embody. Powerful, in charge, in control.
