The week that followed was like I was living someone else's life.
I was a student, trying hard to distract myself with school work for the first time since I had started at Hogwarts. Thoughts of the ring had been hidden in my mind so as not to catch any unwelcome memories of where it might be.
Evie and the other third year girls had returned to Hogwarts from their Christmas breaks. Much to their disappointment I informed them I'd be moving back to my old dormitory with Ruby. Lucky for me , Evie didn't ask too many questions and said she'd still be sneaking into my trunk to steal my perfume when she wanted to.
I still hadn't had the difficult conversation with Sebastian and Ominis about Ruby's brothers. The general mood of the group had improved, now we had time on our side. We intended to use every second of it.
"STUPIFY!"
"PROTEGO, CONFRINGO!"
"PROTE-"
Sebastian's shield charm wasn't quick enough, his robes caught fire and Professor Hecate extinguished them with a raised eyebrow.
"What happened to stunning only, Kitty? Poor Mr.Sallow was almost toast."
I smirked at Sebastian who was repairing his singed robes. The class giggled.
"Sorry , professor , got carried away." I said stepping down from the platform, followed by Sebastian who prodded me hard in the back with his wand.
"Very well, class. Please collect your exam timetable from my desk, after that class is dismissed." She said flicking her wand for the platform to fold itself away into a neat box.
The class queued up to collect their timetables, Sebastian was stood close behind me, so much so I could feel his chest against my back.
"I'll get you back for that." He mumbled into my hair , his breath tickling my neck. I felt a stirring in my stomach. I couldn't help the smile that crept along my face at the feel of his words across my skin.
It had been a tense couple of weeks. Sebastian and I had been up and down. The tragedy of Galway still lingered every time I heard the lilt of my accent, or saw a flash of red and white. My sex life had been the last thing I'd been thinking of. However, I'd caught Sebastian sneaking glances at me over textbooks. Or from the rim of his wine glass at dinner. The little fire in my belly had begun to glow again. And with Malachis threat of a punishment on the horizon...who knew how long I'd have to indulge in such pleasures.
"Time and place , Sallow." I responded as I reached the desk to collect my timetable. I retreated to my desk to collect my bag with Sebastian stalking toward my desk with a flush to his cheeks. He stuffed the timetable in his pocket carelessly and cleared his throat.
I looked up at him as I fastened the straps on my bag. His hair was longer , but not in a disheveled way. In a casual , carefree way. His stubbly face was still smattered with the constellations of freckles and his eyes glowed a golden amber in the light from the window. He smiled and chewed the inside of his cheek.
"Hey , Kitty...?" He asked , a hand reaching to back of his head, as if he were unsure of what to say.
"Sallow?" I smiled folding my arms across my chest as I waited for him to find his words. The class filtered out beside us , grumbles of discontent as they reviewed their exams that loomed.
"I was ..I've been thinking, and it's okay if you don't want to ... I wondered, if you'd-"
"Kitty ? Sallow? Are you both still here? Can you both hurry , I want to get a good spot in the library."
