The snowy owl nibbled my hand affectionately as I sent her off with my letter to Mr Brooke.
The air was pinched with bitter cold and I gripped my broom tightly as I left the owlery squinting upward at the blanket of grey above Hogwarts. The broom twitched in my hands ready to go after a long summer without any use. I threw a leg over the wooden body and kicked off hard from the ground shooting forward into the air. Hogwarts got smaller and smaller as I gained altitude, wind cutting into my face like tiny blades making me gasp for breath. I saw myself reflected in the Black Lake , I lifted the front of my broom even higher still until I was almost vertical to the ground looking up into the cloudy heavens. I needed to feel something different. I needed the rush of my heart in my chest. Last year had been a series of life or death battles, power rushing through my veins and out my wand. I craved it. I craved the feeling of shooting a curse from my wand again. I thought back to last night with Ruby. What if I had just battled her there, summoned a bolt of lightning where she stood. She had no idea who I was. Remembering it all brought the rage back into my throat and face , tears stinging from either the cold or the fury I sharply swapped positions in mid air. Flipping the front of my broomstick behind my head and allowing my body to follow along with the tail of my broom so I was now upside down. The front of the broom pointing like an arrow straight for the black lake. My stomach dropped as I plunged in a dramatic dive for the water. My reflection becoming bigger and bigger and bigger the wind rushing past me was deafening , when I could almost see the whites of my eyes in the lake I jerked my broom upwards out of the dive.
"WOOOOOOHHHHH"
I screamed in elation , the rush of adrenaline causing me to grin from ear to ear. I allowed the toes of my boots to drag along the lake smashing the glass surface , creating a sharp line across its unbroken plane.
In the air I spotted two more brooms speeding around each other higher in the clouds. I squinted to get a better look and pulled my broom upwards so I would be level with my fellow fliers. However the closer that I got the more my gut was telling me to turn back. I still couldn't make out the two figures. They seemed to be trying to spot something low on the ground. I looked toward the forest floor. Nothing my naked eye could see that was of interest. I started to turn my broom round -
"Kitty! I didn't know you flew?"
That familiar deep, satin voice floated over to where I hovered.
Luka waved from 70 yards away. But who was his co-pilot?
The figure turned to meet my gaze.
Sebastian hovered, cheeks pink with the cold. Hot breath panting from his mouth like a dragon in the September air.
I waved over and decided to leave it there. I was torn with Luka but I definitely didn't want to see Sebastian. As my broom switched directions I heard Deeks voice echo in my head.
"Keep an eye on him, however you can."
I did a full circle in mid air facing the pair again. I must've looked a right dick.
"What're you doing?" I asked, not knowing what else to say. Luka and I hadn't met since our kiss in Hogsmeade I didn't really know how to act. As for Sebastian I could keep an eye on him without having to acknowledge his existence.
"Looking for a spot to start our race." Luka replied coolly as I drifted closer so he didn't need to yell.
Sebastian turned to Luka his eyebrows coming together in the middle of his head. Angry ? Confused? I wasn't sure.
"Care to join us?" Luka added.
"Oh no thank you , I'm meeting someone in a bit so I should be heading back."
