Think about it, possessor demons are the only ones capable of getting to their "host" along with psychological damage.
They're VERY rare in Hell since they're invisible but only become visible when they choose their host to possess, and this in particular is me/the listener.
Them being sleep paralysis demons would make sense to mess with the host they're currently possessing so they could mess up their minds.
They're also capable of corrupting the host or a close friend or relative of the host from the inside out. He's trying to corrupt Angel to go back to his old ways to find a "taste for violence".
My guess is that Val hired him to corrupt Angel so that way he can maintain his status quo.
The only way Val would get the upper hand is if he attacks Angel through those he's close to. Fat Nuggets, Cherri, me, Arackness and Molly.
