KATE
We arrived in NewYork late the other night, but now it's 10am and I'm sitting in an office building with my parents waiting to see the person I'm supposed to marry.
I have so much anxiety, I keep thinking what would happen if I agreed. I mean I kinda don't have a choice if I don't obey my parents they'll remind me of it all my life. So I want to think that I'm doing this for Trevor.
The doors open and two men walk in. One older around my fathers age and another younger one. He's handsome, tall, dressed in an expensive suit, his hair well kept, dark, brown eyes that have a look so cold it could freeze you if you looked long enough.
"Mr.Matisse" the elder man shakes hands with my father and then takes a seat at the table.
I look at the younger man once again and then look away. "I'm sorry we have to meet under these circumstances"
I don't think we would ever meet if it wasn't for these circumstances.
"I'm sure you've been instructed about the procedures of the will" he's saying and is taking out some papers.
The man in front of me, the supposed grandson of my grandfathers friend. He's looking down, is he mute? Or is he just like this? Cold as ice dry as sand.
"What are you getting out of this?" I find myself asking before I even can think. I can feel all our parents eyes on me and then on him. He lifts his head looks at me.
"My grandfathers legacy" he says. So he's not mute, just not a man of many words. His voice is deep, and lined with so much poison.
I look back at his father and smile "excuse me, you can continue" I say and he fixes his jacket and gets to tell us all about the contract our grandparents made.
"Marriage has to last at least a year, there's certain tasks both of them need to do, nothing too bad I looked over it, it's almost like a vacation for a whole year honestly" he's saying.
"What things do we need to do?" I'm asking.
"Travel, staying at hotels, buying some artwork, jewellery and other things, attending some charity events, some balls" he passes me a paper "you can have a look at them" he says and then looks at my parents.
"There's some things we need to discuss, could we maybe go to my office" he says and my father nods, looks at me and both my parents stand up and walk out of the room.
Now I'm alone with the mystery man. I look at the paper and throw it back on the desk.
"What's your name?" I ask.
"Grayson" he says. And looks at the paper on the desk and then at me.
"Not gonna ask me what my name is?" I ask after the silence.
"I know your name" he says. "Of course you do" I say quietly and roll my eyes.
"How old are you?" I ask.
"Does it matter?" He asks back.
"Fine, don't talk" I say and lean back in my chair and cross my arms over my chest.
If this is what I have to be married to a year it's going to be a complete nightmare. He seems so full of himself he can't even answer simple questions.
"I'm 25" he says and waits a minute before he continues "are you done with questions and we can talk business now?" He asks.
I look at him but don't say anything.
"Great" he says "firstly, we get married this Friday, and from that moment you're living with me, it will just be easier that way as we'll be travelling a lot anyway" he has it all figured out hasn't he?
