Chapter 23

GRAYSON

I wake up the next morning the bed cold besides me and a note laying on Kate's pillow. I sit up and take the note.

'I need some time to myself, to think about some things, and by the time you're reading this I'm probably already in Italy. Please don't come looking for me, I'll be back in a week and we can continue on with the tasks. - Kate'

I get out of the bed and get dressed and run down to the office where Vole and some of the guards is already in my office and as I walk in I scream "Who? Who let her go without notifying me?"

"Man, what the hell" Cole says "what are you talking about?"

"Kate, she's gone back to Italy" I try not to shout.

"What do you mean?" Cole says.

"She left sometime during the night" I sit down in my chair. "Is there anyone following her?" I ask.

"Why are you all standing here? Go do something useful" I shout and the men leave my office.

"Calm down" Cole says.

"I swear to God Cole say another thing and I'll shoot you" I say and he raises his arms in defeat and walks outside the office shutting the doors behind me.

I punch the desk and then take out my phone. I call her. Please pick up.

I wait, beep after beep and I almost hang up when she picks up.

"Where the hell are you?" I scream.

"I'm not talking to you if you're shouting at me" she says.

"Italy? You went to Italy?" I ask.

"Yes, I missed my family and the company of Jane wasn't very pleasant" she says with attitude and I feel a little bit better knowing that she's okay.

"Why didn't you tell me?" I ask her resting my head in my hand.

"Because I need a break Grayson" she says in a quite voice and then lets out a sigh "when we talked I realised some things and I just need time to think, to be away from you, from us" she says and hearing that is like a dagger in my chest.

"Why?" I ask.

"Grayson" she says my name like it's painful for her. There's silence and then she says "I took your jet, but it's on its way back to you and there's like 8 guards here with me" she says.

"I'll see you in a week Grayson, goodbye" she says and hangs up.

I throw the phone away in the room and pull on my hair. Everything seemed fine, I know I've been busy with work and we haven't spent much time together but everything was fine.

KATE

I woke up early in the morning the sun shining on my bed and it took me a moment to realise I was actually back home. I got up from the bed and got dressed. I made my way down to the kitchen where my mother was preparing some breakfast already.

"Good morning" my dad said and poured a cup of coffee for me passing it to me.

"Thank you" I said and smiled, I took a sip and stopped. Can I even drink this? I put the coffee cup down and my heart raced again for a moment when I remembered.

"We're glad to have you back home" my mom says and put a plate of food in front of me.

"I was getting so homesick" I say and pull my leg up on the chair.

"What happened? Did you two get in a fight?" My mom goes to ask when my dad leaves the room answering a phone call.

"No, I just thought I come home while we're not doing anything anyway" also I absolutely freaked out.
