"Do either of you have any idea why I called you both in here?"
I looked over at Soap to see him as equally confused as I was. Price had called us into his office after we had all finished with some training exercises. He hadn't given either of us an explanation as to what might have caused this meeting.
Turning my attention back to Price, I jokingly said, "Well, the prank war isn't scheduled until next Thursday. Since that hasn't started yet, I don't know why we would be in trouble at this point in time."
Soap's throaty chuckle cut through the atmosphere before being silenced by Price's glare to both of us. I tried holding back the smile that was trying to make its way onto my face. "There will be no prank war at any time while you both serve in this unit. I hope that is clear for both of you not to let it happen. Now, the reason I called you both in has to do with how you have been interacting with one another."
"What's wrong with how we interact?" Soap finally asked, speaking for the first time since this meeting was called.
Price started flipping through a file that had been laying on his desk while explaining, "Over the past few months, members of the team as well as myself have taken notice that the both of you seem to have an extremely hostile attitude directed towards the other."
I scoffed with a roll of the eyes, "Come on, Price. That's how we show that we care."
"Aye, we get along just fine."
Price stopped looking over the papers to glance at the both of us. He had this look in his eyes that was screaming 'are you kidding me'. He leaned forward on his desk in the same manner that a principal did when lecturing a pair of delinquents. "I have multiple occasions in this one file alone that can suggest otherwise."
"All of which must be misunderstandings," I countered. "I'm sure that we both have an explanation for every single one."
"Alright then. If you're so sure of it then explain why two weeks ago you threatened to 'suffocate Soap while he slept' while he was doing his laundry?"
"That is actually a funny story. You see what had happened was..."
"Soap, have you seen my hoodie anywhere?" I had been looking all over my room for the past half hour trying to find my favorite hoodie. I was having a bad morning so I had planned on laying in bed for a couple of hours watching one of my comfort shows. The only thing that was missing was the hoodie I wore when I had one of these kinds of days.
He had just pressed the button to start the cycle when he said, "I noticed you haven't washed it in a while so I threw it in with my stuff."
"You did what?" Soap actually turned towards me when he took notice of the tone of my voice. The look in his eyes slightly dropped when he realized the look of panic on my face at his confession.
"I'm so sorry. When I planned this, I had no idea this was one of those days I swear. I thought that I would do you a favor by cleaning your hoodie." Closing my eyes to take a few deep breaths, I felt his hand touch my shoulder gently. "What can I do to make this up to you? I can go steal some of Lt's candies from his room if you want. I know that those make you feel better sometimes."
Reopening my eyes, I looked at Soap to say, "It's fine. Really. You were just trying to do something nice. You had no idea that I would be needing it. Just give it back as soon as it's done washing."
