You are no stranger to nightmares.
It came with the territory of the job, and the relationship you found yourself in.
You were a nurse.
You had dealt with blood, and death for most of your career.
It's nothing new when you are in the military.
But the nightmares that had been plaguing you are haunting.
You dream of Soap... Of him dying in the battlefield.
You dream of your friends; their life in your hands, and suddenly you freeze from all the blood covering you.
It wakes you in a cold sweat; makes you shiver and feel feverish.
It had been a toss and turn kind of night; the room around you feels cold and too hot all at the same time.
The bed suddenly feels all too big, as if at any given moment, it might swallow you whole.
You don't remember the bed ever being this uncomfortable, and this lonely.
You know the remedy you need.
But you feel guilty for wanting.
And though you know, it was selfish to draw his attention from the training; you knew he would be upset if you didn't call him.
John Soap MacTavish.
He's the best thing that has ever happened to you, and you were grateful he stumbled into your med bay all those years ago.
Over the course of your relationship, you both had, had your fair share of nightmares, and while it was difficult to talk about in some cases, you were always there for each other.
Reaching out for your phone, you wince as you tap the screen.
It's 3:00 A.M. in the morning, and guilt starts to set in as you know Soap has training in the morning.
Instead of calling, you send him a quick message.
You: Hi sweetheart, are you awake by chance?
Hitting send, you softly curse yourself.
Ding.
Soap: Been up for a bit, you alright pretty girl?
You feel your insides twisting at the pet name.
You: Couldn't sleep, had a nightmare ☹
It doesn't take long after the message it sent, that you see Soap's handsome face appearing on your screen.
"Hello?" You try to hide the shiver in your voice, as small remnants of the nightmare cling to your mind.
"Hi sweet girl."
"Sweetheart, what are you doing awake so early, you have to be up for training soon," you toss in your bed, trying your best to get comfortable.
"I couldn't sleep for long anyways, missed my girl too much."
You bite down on your bottom lip, feeling the butterflies flutter against your stomach, "What time do you have to be up?"
"Well Price told me my training starts at 0600, so..."
"Well Sergeant, how about you get over here and come cuddle?"
"I'm on my way."
In less than five minutes, Soap is at your door – before you have a chance to let him into your room, he is on you... Lifting you into his arms, as you breaths in your lotion and shampoo.
You cling to him.
As if this was a dream winding up for the nightmares you had been having as of late.
"I'm here, pretty girl..."
You bury your face in his neck, shaking your head... You don't want to let go.
So, he hugs you a little tighter, whispering in your ear, how he'll always be here to keep the nightmares away.
"How about we try to get some sleep?" He kisses the side of your head, walking you over to your bed, "I promise no more nightmares."
