Varian's POV:
I woke up in Hugo's arms, inside the fairly small tent. I smiled while blushing slightly, happy to be with Hugo again. I tried to get up but got pulled back down by Hugo.
"Hugo, let me go."
He opened his eyes, staring 'straight' into mine. I couldn't help myself. I pulled him closer, locking our lips together. He tensed up for a sec, only to start to kiss back passionately. I crawled on top of him, refusing to let go of his lips. I slid my tongue in his mouth, fighting for dominance. Hugo obviously won. I pulled away for air, panting slightly.
Hugo: Varian, we need to talk.
I looked at him puzzled. Way to ruin the mood, Hugo. He sat up, lightly pushing me off him.
"About what exactly?"
He stayed quiet.
Hugo: Just, give me a second.
I turned around and got out of the tent, leaving Hugo in there with his thoughts. I found the mule with the wagon still attached to him. I started to pack everything up, loading stuff into the wagon. I saw Hugo finally come out of the tent, with small bags lurking under his eyes. Hugo helped pack up the rest of our stuff, making sure nothing was left behind. I got into the back of the wagon, letting Hugo drive.
"So, what did you want to talk about?"
I sat anxiously, waiting for a response.
Hugo: We only have a few more days together before I return home and I'm worried that we will never see each other again.
"Hugo, of course we will."
I could hear the pain in his voice. He turned to face me, small tears forming in his eyes.
Hugo: How can you be sure? Once I return, I might never be allowed to leave again.
What is he talking about?
"Hugo everything will be alri-"
Hugo: YOU DON'T KNOW THAT VARIAN!
We both stayed silent, not knowing what to say. I haven't heard him yell at me like that before... what's going on? I finally speak up.
"I just have one question."
He looks right at me, staring into my eyes.
"Did you mean it?"
Hugo: Huh?
"When you said what we were doing didn't mean anything to you... did you mean it?"
He looked at me, clearly confused about why I was bringing this up now.
Hugo: Why are you asking this now?
"It's been on my mind ever since. I just didn't know how to ask."
Hugo: I meant it.
My heart shattered right then and there. I thought maybe he would've changed his mind. Clearly not. I felt tears trickle down my face. I felt so embarrassed, I quickly turned my head so Hugo couldn't see. I saw from the corner of my eye, Hugo slowly turned his head back around, focusing on the road ahead.
*~*TIME SKIP*~* Hugo's POV:
It's been 5 hours of just silence. Both me and Varian haven't said a word to each other since our little argument. The sun wasn't that far from starting it's decent into the nighttime and I could tell just how tired Varian was. I pulled over on the side of the road, coming to a complete stop in a small clearing of trees.
Varian: Why are we stopping?
Varian asked me, clearly annoyed.
"You look like you need some sleep."
Varian: It's not even dark yet.
"I know but you look exhausted. We can just stay here for the night."
He rolled his eyes at me. I hoped off the wagon, Varian doing the same. While I started grabbing stuff from the wagon, I saw Varian pull out his journal and start writing in it again. I haven't seen him write in it for a while. I wonder what he's writing about.
Varian's journal:
Journal entry no. 101
I think I'm going insane here. Hugo blushes when we're doing... stuff, and yet he says that he doesn't have any feelings for me in the slightest. I can't tell if he's embarrassed about it or not. I'm done being his sex toy. I'm a person too and I will not let him break my heart again. I just don't know how to talk to him at the moment. I'm too tired for this right now, I need food, water and sleep. Plus, I'm still sore from what Andrias and Andrew did to me. I thought having alone time with Hugo would be great but apparently not. None of this would have happened if I had just kept a closer eye on my journal in the first place. I just want to get back home as fast as I can now. I'm going to leave it here for now. Bye.
Varian's POV:
I closed my journal, putting on the ground next to me. I was on the verge of tears, holding them back the best I could. How could I have been so stupid? I rubbed my head, trying to think of something to say to Hugo. I want to talk with him about this, but I don't think I can.
Hugo: I'll set up the tent for you.
"I told you, I'm not tired. It's not even dark yet."
Hugo ignored me, still setting up the tent. I walked up to him. He turned his head to look at me.
"Hugo, why do you even care? Why do you even care about what I want or what's good for me? Why do you care about me?"
He stayed silent.
"Fine. Don't answer me."
I turned my back and started to walk away from him.
Hugo: Varian wait.
I turned around.
"What?"
Hugo's POV:
What can I say to him? I actually have a crush on you, and I have for a long time? NO! Even if it's not wrong, I can't just say that when I'm pretty sure he doesn't feel the same way.
Varian: WELL???
He raised his voice, still waiting for me to respond with something.
"I-I... I-I."
Varian: You what?
I love you.
"I care about you."
Varian: But, why?
"I can't tell you why. Not yet anyway."
Varian: Fine.
He walked away, clearly annoyed with my answer. I'm sorry.
