Jace 💙: Don't wait up tonight, I'll be working late.

Reading the message that popped up on her phone. The anger that was beneath her core wanted to seep through and just tell Jace to fuck himself and the sham of a marriage that they were dragging along. How could he face her everyday and know that he was cheating? She needed to find proof and find it asap so she could take him for everything that he was currently worth.

This was a pain that she wouldn't wish upon anyone and I guess she had her biological parents to thank for what she deemed acceptable from a man or anyone period. The standard that they set for her was pretty low seeing as they were always high off of their asses.

Most days she had gone hungry or she would go to her local corner store in her neighborhood and helped to pack the bags of groceries that people bought just for some food to last her through and even then she had to hide her snacks just so it wouldn't go missing.

The mantra that got her through everyday was the fact that she didn't want to be a statistic of her environment. It was implemented in her to do better, be better and so everyday she strived for just that and look at her now, on her way to being partner at one of the top leading law firms in the country.

What the hell did she need Jace for? Indeed, he was taking care of the major household bills while she only paid for the groceries every month but she was no where close to broke and her faith in God blessing her was starting to dwindle.

Nothing in her life seemed promising and if it did, it was only for a mere minute of happiness that would be swiped away the next day. She was twenty-two when she found out that her father had been murdered by a next addict for trying to steal his drugs off of him.

She couldn't even cry because she held no emotions for either of her parents. They'd fail her as parents but that didn't mean she would turn a blind eye whenever she saw her mother out in the streets with her hair all over her head, her stench that followed her whenever she talked or walked with booze and odor from the need of a desperate shower.

She would offer her mother food, drinks, toiletries and even a week at a hotel and if it wasn't money, Denise Lennox was refusing any helping hand from Athena.

It was troubling because she had no idea how her parents life were before they'd gotten addicted to drugs and neither of their families bothered to reach out and tell her let alone raise her for them.

Athena took that on the chin and figured that they were probably just as terrible as her biological parents and maybe that was Gods way of protecting her from another disappointment that was soon to come in her life.

How comical.

The very same God that she was having trouble believing in again would come through and make shit happen for her at her lowest moments. She knew God was real but she couldn't help the questions of why, why was her life planned this way, why was she getting the short end of the stick in her marriage? Why wasn't she getting pregnant and bearing children!?
