I'm down the street from my house and I'm still bawling my eyes out. Jinshu passed by me a little over twenty minutes ago. He probably went to see Quinn. I wonder what'll happen between them. It doesn't matter. It's none of my business.
I walk up to my house and to the front door. I knock on the door and my mom opens it.
"Jaden, you're finally here! Where have you been? It's pouring outside!"
My mother begins to scold me and it reminds me of the times I used to sneak out of school and get drunk with my friends.
"Jaden! Are you listening to me?"
I look up at my mom and her face goes into shock. She immediately brings me inside and closes the door. She takes me over to the sofa and we sit down.
"Jaden, what happened? Tell me."
"It's-it's Quinn. He's gone. He left me."
"Are you sure this isn't just one of your tricks?"
"Yes. Yes, I'm sure! Why the fuck would this be a trick? I'm bawling my eyes out and you think that I'm lying!"
"Jaden, I'm sorry, but with the way you act, I can't tell when you're being serious."
"Well, I am! I'm so serious. So fucking serious that I wish I wasn't. Shit. Mom, I want him to come back to me. He...I...I love him. I love Quinn so much."
My mom wraps her arm around my shoulder and lays my head on her shoulder. She lets me lay there and cry for what seemed like forever.
"Jaden, tell me, why do you love Quinn so much?"
"I mean, he's perfect. He's everything that I could ever ask for. He's cute, funny, kind, clumsy, bratty, smart, responsible, mature, hygienic, respectful, generous, thoughtful, and so many other things."
"Why did Quinn leave you?"
"It was something that I said yesterday while I was high. It wasn't entirely a lie either."
"What did you say?"
"I said that I was using him so that I could sneak out of the house and have an excuse."
"So that is what you were doing. Then I don't understand, why are you sad?"
"That's what I was originally thinking of doing, but after just two days of knowing him I decided that I wouldn't do that. Instead, I treated him as if he was my lover, but I was scared to call him mine because if he found out then he'd hate me for everything and now he knows. He knows what my plan was. I tried explaining it to him, but he didn't understand. I don't know what to do."
"Jaden, do you want to take the next few days off of school?"
"No, that's the only place that I'll be able to see Quinn now."
"I can't believe this. Your first break up was caused by something so dumb."
"I just want him to come back. Do you think he ever will?"
"I highly doubt it, but if he does then that just means that he loves you just as much as you love him."
"Mom, can we bake some cookies together?"
"Really?"
"Yes."
"Of course. Come on, I'll get the ingredients. You get the oven ready."
We get up and head to the kitchen to bake cookies. I haven't spent time with my mom like this since I was sixteen. Ever since Jinshu left me, my mom and I have been separated, but now we can fix our relationship. I believe it.
I set the oven to the correct temperature and I help my mom mold the cookies. We decided to use a cookie dough cutter to make hearts and then cut them in half. It was my idea. I thought that I fit the occasion.
When we put the cookies in the oven my mom and I talked about a lot. Since we haven't had a very good relationship for the past two years, there was a lot that we needed to get caught up on. For example, she didn't know that my grades were better now.
I didn't know that she was planning on getting a new job. I also didn't know that her and dad's relationship wasn't working out that well. There were so many things that we talked about and so many things that neither of us knew.
I can't believe that I didn't even know my mom's favorite color even though I've been living with her my whole life.
"The cookies are done!"
My mom was excited and opened up the oven. I was excited too. I can't believe what's happening right now. It feels so nice to just relax and spend time with her.
She takes them out of the oven and sits them on the counter.
"Now we just need to wait for them to cool off. Then we can put icing on them."
We waited for a while to let the cookies cool off and while we were waiting we heard a knock on the front door.
"Is that dad?"
"No, he went to stay at a hotel since the two of us were arguing."
"Oh. Then who is it?"
"I'll go see."
My mom left the kitchen and went to answer the door. While she was gone I started icing the first cookie. Before I can finish, my mom comes back into the kitchen.
"Who was it?"
"It's Quinn."
I dropped the cookie and the icing before looking at my mom. Was she serious? I ran out of the kitchen and out the front door. I looked at the end of the staircase and saw Quinn. He's here.
