Chapter 13: Final lesson

2 weeks later

Sunday afternoon, 13:00/1pm

Adriano's POV

Trisha and I were in my room. We're studying for our final paper tomorrow. As luck may have it, our last paper just had to be Math. This was kind of an emergency study session but also an excuse to spend time with her. I was sitting at my desk and she as sitting on my bed.

Adriano: I give up!
Trisha: No you don't.
Adriano: I'm tired of algebra! The equations make my head hurt and I've used all my brain cells to answer the first question! Why do we even need to know all this nonsense? When are we going to need Factorisation and Euclidean Geometry in our everyday lives?!

I threw down my pencil and held my head in my hands. I looked to Trisha, who was trying to hold back laughter.

Adriano: Please lend me your brain?

She came to me and wrapped her arms around my shoulders. I felt her breath on my ear, sending a wave of butterflies to my stomach. She rarely does this, so when she does it makes me nervous.

Trisha: You're almost done. You can't give up now.
Adriano: It's too hard!
Trisha: Teddybear, you can do it. I believe in you. I didn't spend this much time tutoring you just to watch you give up.

She turned my head towards hers. Our faces were inches apart. Now this, I was used to.

Trisha: It's one more paper. By this time tomorrow, you'll be planning your prom outfit.
Adriano: Who says I'm going?
Trisha: Well because I'm asking you to go with me.
Adriano: No you're not. I planned on asking you.
Trisha: Too bad because I beat you to it.
Adriano: Alright, I'll go with you.

I closed the distance between us by giving Trisha a soft kiss on her lips. She put her hand on my cheek and deepened the kiss. Suddenly she stepped back.

Trisha: That's your motivation. Now, we'll take a break and then I'll help you with whatever you're still struggling with.

I nodded and stood up. I heard a knock on the door and I saw Dad standing there.

Trisha: Hi Mr Richards.
Adriano: Hey Dad! What's up?
Ethan: I just wanted to let you know that I'm leaving for my coffee date with Jake.
Trisha: Coffee date?
Ethan: Yeah. Your dad wanted to talk to me.
Trisha: Oh okay. Enjoy!
Ethan: I'll bring back some dessert for you kids. Behave.
Adriano: Why does everyone keep telling us that when we're together?

Dad gave me a look and I knew what he was referring to.

Adriano: Okay I get it.
Trisha: Don't worry, I'll keep him in check.
Ethan: I'm glad I can trust at least one of you.

I made an offended face, which made Trisha and Dad laugh. Dad then left. When I heard him close the door, I pulled Trisha by her waist and pinned her against the wall.

Adriano: Keep me in check, huh?

She avoided eye contact with me while holding back a smile. I put my finger under her chin, forcing her to look at me.

Adriano: Why are you avoiding my eyes Princess?
Trisha: No reason.

She smiled cutely. I chuckled and smirked.

Adriano: Let's do something fun.
Trisha: Like what?
Adriano: You'll see...

I held her hand and led her to the lounge. I went on YouTube on the TV and looked for her favourite dance scene, which is from the live-action Aladdin. I've seen her watching the dance a bunch of times.

Adriano: Let's dance.
Trisha: I thought you don't dance?
Adriano: I don't.

I squeezed her waist before standing in my position.

Adriano: But if we'll be at prom together I have to know how to dance.
Trisha: Do you even know Aladdin's parts?
Adriano: Yes but I've never actually done it so this is spontaneous.
Trisha: You're very spontaneous.
Adriano: That's one of my signature traits.

The music started and honestly, I was kinda nervous. Lucky for me I was facing the screen! We started dancing and I was getting the hang of it. Then it came to Aladdin's dance break. That's when I stopped the song.

Trisha: That's the best part!
Adriano: And fortunately for me I can't do all that.

I pulled her closer by her waist and I put my forehead on hers.

Trisha: Oh well, at least we're in sync.
Adriano: Yeah.

At that moment I heard two cars pull up to the house. We both exchanged looks of confusion and we looked out the window. We saw our dads walking to the door smiling and they looked at each other like how Trish and I look at each other. Just then, we saw Mr Roberts lean closer to Dad and they kissed? What's going on with our parents?! I watched as Dad's hand slithered to Mr Roberts' neck and he deepened the kiss. I looked at Trish, expecting a look of shock, but instead I saw a look of excitement.

Trisha: I knew they liked each other!
Adriano: How did you know? I mean I thought my dad liked your mom. Sorry.
Trisha: Well I found out that Amy forced herself onto your dad. We were on break this one day and they were in his office. I saw Amy trying to get close to him but he rejected her and said that he actually likes someone else. Then I remembered that dinner we came to.
Adriano: When you still hated me.
Trisha: I didn't hate you, okay? You just annoyed me and I wanted to avoid my feelings for you.
Adriano: Oh so you liked me back then too?
Trisha: Yes now back to the point. My dad was very jealous when Any and your dad interacted and whenever he spoke my dad always gave him all of his attention. Since then, my dad has been distant from Amy. I figured out that he didn't want us hanging out because he was trying to avoid your dad. In addition to all of that, I overheard his conversation with his mom saying that he's bisexual.

Dang, girls really are great detectives!

Adriano: So now that your dad is single he decided to shoot his shot.
Trisha: Yup! Honestly, I'm happy for him. He deserves to be happy.
Adriano: Honestly it's a little weird since it's our dads but yeah, I'm happy for them.
Trisha: It will be weird if they get married because then we'd be siblings in law.
Adriano: But we could still date because we're not blood related.

She shrugged and I kissed her temple.

Trisha: Why don't we surprise them?
Adriano: Yes!

I ran to the kitchen to get some confetti for us. I gave some to Trisha and we waited by the door. When the door opened, we threw the confetti up.

Ethan: Woah, what's this for?
Trisha: We're celebrating you and my dad coming out!
Adriano: And also your relationship!
Jake: So, no one's mad that we kept it secret?
Trisha: Of course not.
Adriano: We just want you to be happy.

We got together in a tight group hug.

Jake: Well there's something else we have to admit...

We waited for their confession, and we were nervous because they were nervous.

Ethan: So, Jake and I have been together for a while now but we couldn't say anything until Jake divorced Amy. She did cheat on Jake by trying to hit on me.
Jake: But I was kind of cheating for longer. I did want to tell you Trisha but I was scared of how you'd react to your father's secret relationship and his sexuality, especially when I got mad at you for your secret relationship with Adriano.
Trisha: Well I am surprised that you cheated first but I did figure out that you liked Ethan. I'm happy for you guys!
Ethan: I'm glad you accept us.

I could see that they really liked each other. They're actually good for each other.

Adriano: So did you bring the dessert?
Ethan: As promised.

Trisha's eyes lit up, more than mine, when Dad revealed a bag with some dessert.

Jake: We'll let you kids enjoy your dessert.
Ethan: Yeah. If you need anything, we'll be in the library.

Dad and Mr Roberts walked away, hands connected, after leaving the bag on the kitchen counter. Trish and I took our desserts (mine was peppermint tart and hers was Rocky Road icecream). We sat down together on the couch to watch TV. Today was a very surprising day!
