chapter 16: jealousy + jealousy

Once again, I'm waking up in the Cameron house. In the eldest son's bed.

A feeling of guilt rushed passed me. What would the Pogues think? What would JJ think? After Rafe punched him for the second time, I go to his and sleep in the same bed as him? It wasn't fair.

But I needed to be comforted. I appreciated Rafe's apology, and if I'm being honest, I have confusing feelings for him.

I want to lounge around with Rafe all day but I can't. I have to go home and figure things out. With Kie, my parents. I need to know why she said what she said to Rafe. What would she retain from that?

Was she jealous?

If so, jealous of what?

It was very younger sister of her to go around messing with stuff in my life like that.

I look over at Rafe, still sleeping. I didn't want to bother him, so I get up and head to his bathroom to get ready for the day. I simply brush my teeth and wet my hair to renew the curls.

Once I exit, he's awake.

"Morning princess."

"Heyyy." I reply.

"I gotta go like, right now."

"I can drive you?"

"Will you?"

"Alright just give me a minute yeah?"

I smile and nod, as I watch him go into the bathroom. Probably to brush his teeth.

He's always been a hygienic clean freak. Not something I'm mad about though. It's kind of cute. Really cute. Super cute.

Shut up.

A few minutes later, we're entering his Range Rover, ready to go.

"Thanks for letting me stay, again. I so do not want to go back home."

"Yeah anything, seriously. Let me know how it goes. We can hang out after?"

I hesitate for a second.

"Uh yeah maybe.."

Moments of silence proceed as he drives. It's peaceful. Not quite uncomfortable or awkward.

Once he pulls up to my house, I get out and close the door behind me, waving goodbye with a smile.

I unlock the door to see my parents at the dining table sitting.

"Look who it is! Miss bails on us at Midsummers. What is wrong with you recently  Cassandra? Really and truly. First you yell at us about working, and then you just leave for a whole night? You and your sister. Where is she?" My mom scolds me.

"How would I know?"

"Well I assumed she would be with you."

"No.. I was at Sarah's. I told her to tell you I wouldn't be home. I don't know where she is." I sternly explain, as I march up to my room.

"You don't just get to walk away!"

"Oh really? Because I think I just did."

"Why are 17 year olds so mouthy? You should take all that energy you have to talk back and use it to go find your sister!" She yells.

My dad sitting next to her, quiet.

"It's not my job! Just like how working at the Wreck isn't my job! She's probably with the Pogues!"

She chuckles.

"The Pogues. Yeah, always these god damn Pogues."

I near the end of the hallway, turning into my room.
