Becca's POV

The whole day Luke and I hung out, the more I wondered why an Australian boy and three other Australian boys lived with their Australian families in San Francisco, California. We went to the beach because that's where Luke wanted to go and there was a firework show. I found out Luke was a funny yet awkward 18 year old. He enjoyed the beach, video games, bands, going to concerts, he loved food, and he wants to dye his hair like his friend Michael.

"What color do you wanna dye your hair, Luke?" I asked while we were waiting for the fireworks.

"Hmm, I think I'd dye it maybe a natural color first which would be brown and then the outrageous color would be blue, since it's my favorite color." I nodded.

"The next color I want for my hair is purple. Which is my favorite color," I told him. He smiled and nodded. A few minutes of talking, the fireworks started.

~the next morning(bc I'm tired and yeah)~

I woke up the next morning and saw Skylar wasn't up. I ate some cereal for breakfast because I don't like to cook. I got out Skylar's cereal because she doesn't like to cook either. I saw a text while munching loudly on my Reese's peanut butter cereal.

Hemmo-dude

Hey, um, hangout?
Luke xx

Why not? I texted him back and got ready once he said he'll come pick me up. Skylar was still dead asleep when I left. I got into Luke's gray SUV and he looked, how you say, undeniably hot. His quiff tamed by only his hood, black aviators shielding his eyes, just stunning. He looked at me and tilted his sunglasses down and his eyes caught mine. He bit his lip ring again.

"Ready? Got everything?" I nodded and he grinned as he pushed his sunglasses back up to his eyes and pulled out of the driveway. I rolled the window down slightly and felt the cool yet warmish California morning air.

I hadn't grown up in Cali, I was raised just outside Nebraska and my family made a big move to California. We almost went to Australia but my dad's work decided not to. We drove to a frozen yogurt shop several minutes later.

"Frozen yogurt? At 9:40 A.M.?" I asked, smiling. He grinned and shrugged.

"Do you even care?"

"Nope," I told him as we both got out if the car.

~two brain-freezes later~

Luke had two brain-freezes since we got the frozen yogurt. I've never had a brain-freeze before, but I just laughed at him. Now it was 10:30 A.M. That took a while. We started walking outside and laughed at the joke the shopkeeper told us. But suddenly, the ground jerked beneath us. Things shook.

"Earthquake!" The shopkeeper screamed as he ran and pulled us into the shop again. "Get under the tables or the counter!"

Luke tugged me under the counter and we shielded our heads as the ground moved and shifted and things shook and fell. I was about to be violently thrown, but Luke wrapped his arm around my waist and kept my body stable and safe under the counter. The shopkeeper was taking shelter under his desk, he had said. This was my first earthquake and I was freaking out.

"Luke, I've never been in an earthquake before!" I screamed over all the loud sounds. I heard knickknacks and all kinds of loose, unprotected objects fall to the ground with a clatter or shatter. I wanted to cry.

"I haven't either! But please stay calm, because if you don't stay calm, I won't and we'll both probably die!" Luke yelled frantically. Just as suddenly as it came, it was done. Luke sighed in relief.

"Luke, it's not over, there's still aftershocks," I told him, recalling what I learned in geography class. His face turned into a panicked expression.

"What does that mean?!" He asked worriedly. "I failed geography!"

"It means there's gonna be more shaking, but not as bad, I think."

As if on cue, the slight shaking started. Luke squealed and squeezed me tight into his chest. I laughed. The shaking stopped again.

"Is it over, completely?" Luke asked shakily. I nodded.

We emerged from the counter and saw all the remains of the interior of the shop. Some of the ceiling had caved in too. We opened the door and saw some people walking funnily around. A thought then occurred to me.

"Skylar..." I mumbled and took off running to Luke's car. He looked at me as if I was insane and I motioned him to join me.

"What is it?" He asked, once he entered the car.

"Skylar, I hope she's safe! She was dead asleep when I left!" I stole Luke's keys and started the car. I headed towards my house.

We pulled up and Luke followed me in. Some of the picture frames were scattered and or shattered on the ground, things were toppled over or just shifted slightly. I ran up the stairs to Skylar's room and opened the door. I saw Skylar snoring in her bed, sound asleep. I groaned in frustration but then let out a sigh of relief. She still didn't wake up. I rolled my eyes and walked towards her bed. I sat beside her.

"Oh my God! Twenty-One Pilots broke up!" I exclaimed.

Her head shot up off her pillow and she had wide, worried eyes.

"What?!" She asked horrifically. I fell back and laughed.

"You should have seen your face!"

"Why did you do that?! And why is Luke in here?"

"There was an earthquake and we came to see if you were okay." Her eyes widened even more.

"What? Really?! Whoa, I didn't know I could sleep through an entire earthquake...why isn't the house in ruins then?"

"It wasn't a bad earthquake, don't worry. You're lucky I didn't murder you in your sleep for scaring me," I told her as she laughed. Luke stood awkwardly in the doorway.

"I'll just go make us some 'we-didn't-die-in-an-earthquake' breakfast!" He said. We all laughed and suddenly, Skylar was out like a light.
