Luke's POV

The day I've been waiting for had come. Our first band practice. We had agreed to meet in Michael's garage for our first practice. Once Calum and I arrived we noticed one single mic, two crappy looking amps, a few guitars, and an electric drum set. Ashton was nowhere to be seen.

"Where's Ash?" Michael asked. We shrugged.

The garage door was open and we heard the sound of a push bike. We turned to find Ashton wearing a disgustingly ugly lavender or purple shirt while riding a push bike. He jumped off of it and threw it aside the driveway.

"Sorry I'm late, guys," Ashton apologized as he jogged into the garage.

"Well, now that everyone's here, let's discuss which songs we're gonna perform," Michael informed. "But we also need to assign instruments. I'm playing the guitar, Luke is the lead singer and a guitarist, Ashton plays the drums, and Calum will play bass. Any questions?"

Calum raised his hand.

"Yes, Calum?" Michael asked in an annoyed voice.

"Um, where's the bass?"

Michael groaned in response.

"I can't freaking afford one! God, guys, this is no time for criticizing my lack of money!" Michael spat.

"Michael, chill," Calum replied smoothly.

"Calum's right, Michae-"

"Shut up, Luke," Michael hissed at me, cutting Ashton off.

"I didn't say anything!" I argued.

"But you were thinking and it was annoying." I rolled my eyes at him and crossed my arms over my chest.

"If we're gonna be a band, we must work together as a team; as a family," Ashton commented.

"He's right," Calum agreed.

"I'm with them," I chimed in.

"Fine, whatever!" Michael pouted as had picked up his guitar.

I walked to the mic and picked up that spare guitar. Ashton sat at the electric drum set and Calum stood awkwardly to my left.

"So, what do I do?" Calum asked.

"Well obviously since we don't have a bass, you'll just be singing," Michael explained.

"But songs sound so much better with bass!" Calum protested. "We need a bass to make the songs sound better!"

"I do told you this before! I can't freaking afford one!"

"Don't worry, I have money! I'll get one myself."

"Um, Michael, what songs are we doing?" I asked timidly, hoping he wouldn't yell at me.

"Oh, Luke, why can't you just shut up?!" Michael spat out. I flinched and frowned at the lone mic.

Ashton raised his hand. Michael called on him.

"What songs are we doing?" He asked.

"I Miss You by Blink-182, a few Adele songs, and Backseat Serenade by All Time Low," Michael replied nonchalantly. Why does Michael hate me?

~end of practice~

"Okay, great work today, guys! But, Cal, you need to work on that bass playing of yours. It was like you weren't playing at all!" Michael exclaimed, his voice slightly raspy from his back-up singing.

"Whatever," Calum muttered.

"Michael? You were good too," I told him, though my voice was almost gone. He turned to look at me.

"I know," he replied before turning back around to the driveway.

He walked inside his house so the rest of us left the garage.

"Next time, we're going to my garage," Ashton stated.

"Hopefully," Calum and I replied.

~home~

I walked through the door of my house and my mum greeted me with a plate of cookies.

"Take two, sweetie, I bet your throat is sore from all that singing," she stated. I thanked her as I grabbed two of the chocolate chip m&m cookies.

"Yeah, but I think one of the band members hates me," I told her truthfully.

"Why do you say that?"

"He keeps telling me to shut up and he won't let me speak," I ranted slightly.

"Who is he?" Mum demanded protectively. "I'll go give him a talking to!"

"No no no, it's fine, I can deal with bullies. I did all throughout my little school experience." She gave me a sympathetic look before kissing my forehead.

"Oh, sweetie, it's gonna be okay. Once you're a famous lead singer of a famous band and everyone knows your name, they'll all be sorry." With that, she walked away, leaving me to daydream about being famous.
