I got a message from Isa.

Dad said he wants to meet you.

Why?

Because he hasn't seen you in fifteen Years maybe?

I don't know if I want to see him

I won't force you, but i feel like you should

Can Othersam come with me?

I don't know...

Why not?

Oh nvm

Ok, I'll go and see him

"Othersam? Can I ask you something?"
"Yeah sure, what is it?" he yelled from the wardrobe.

"Wait, what are you doing inside the wardrobe?"

"My scars hurt and being in the dark makes it feel a bit better."

"It's still hurting? It's been like two weeks since the surgery."

"Yeah."

"Well, I think I want to meet my dad, but I don't want to go alone. Could you come with me?"

"Of course! But why the sudden interest?"

"Isa's been asking me over the last couple of weeks. I just feel like I should meet the dad who left when I was one."

Did I really want to meet my dad? I didn't know. I didn't owe him anything. He left before I got a chance to know him.

And what if he was dangerous? I had no idea if he was a bad man or not. Isa said he'd come to visit when I wasn't there.

And how the heck do I tell him he has a son now?

There was another thing I couldn't stop thinking about. Isa looked scared whenever she saw Othersam. What was that about? Did Othersam know why?

"Othersam, can I ask you another question?"
"Sure," came the muffled wardrobe-yell.

"Do you know why my sister looks freaked out whenever she sees you?"

He was quiet for a second. Then, "I don't know. I guess it's probably nothing."

I got another text from Isa.

Also I'm getting my cast off today!

Oh that's great!

When do you want to see dad?

I don't mind

Is next week good?

Yeah that's fine

"Is next week okay?" I asked the wardrobe.

"Yup, that's fine. I'm gonna have a nap in here."

I just have to wait a week. From Wednesday to Wednesday.

Wednesday: I didn't do much, chatted to people on online. I met two cool people on discord, Blue needs hugs and Ash the Capri Sun.

Thursday: I went to a skate park and practised on my bike. I crashed seven times.

Friday: Me and Othersam looked at possible flats for him to live, as he was moving away soon.

Saturday: I stressed about meeting dad on Wednesday.

Sunday: I attempted to make a roast dinner, and by "attempted" I mean "hideously failed." Everything was burned, and I forgot to cook the chicken.

Monday: I thought about the future.

Tuesday: Tomorrow I saw dad. I was nervous about a lot of stuff. How was I going to tell him about my transnessness? What if he was transphobic the same way mum was?

Wednesday: Today's the day.

We had agreed to meet dad at a café fifteen minutes away. Isa wasn't able to come, since she had a doctors appointment for a final x-ray on her leg.

Othersam agreed to come with me. He was nice enough to drive.

"You know, when I asked Isa if you could come, she seemed unsure. Why do you think that is?" I asked on the car ride there.

"Maybe she just wanted you to meet dad alone?" Othersam answered.

"But what if he's dangerous or something? I don't want to end up in trouble. It feels safer with you."

"Don't worry, if something bad happens, I'll throw a handful of pennies in his face and stab him with a fork. How does that sound?"

"Sounds good."

Othersam parked the car. We slowly walked inside the cafe. In the corner at the smallest table was a man sitting hunched up over a cup of coffee. I walked over, holding my breath.

"Hi, are you Thomas Star?" I asked, tapping his shoulder. He turned around and my heart stopped.

Now I knew why me and Othersam had a similar shaped nose.

🪴Othersam's POV🪴

Standing in front of me was my father.

Cliffhanger :)
