Part 21: Selfish

In the complex tapestry of human souls,
There's a thread that sometimes takes its toll.
Selfishness, a trait that often unfolds,
Leaving behind stories, untold.

When life's storms gather, and skies turn gray,
We reach out for help, for some light on the way.
But in the heart of the selfish, a different sway,
Their own interests priority, come what may.

Their needs and desires rise like a tide,
No room for others, they don't confide.
In their world, where ego and self reside,
Empathy and compassion seem to slide.

But when their hour of need draws near,
Suddenly our presence they hold dear.
Our support, our strength, it's crystal clear,
They seek our help, without hesitation or fear.

It's a paradox, a dance of give and take,
A relationship's balance sometimes at stake.
When we call, they're often too busy to make,
But their pleas we answer, for their sake.

Yet in this one-sided tango, we find our way,
A lesson of boundaries, a brighter day.
While they prioritize themselves, we weigh,
Our own well-being, without delay.

For in the realm of selflessness, we learn,
To stand strong, for our worth we discern.
Not to mirror their ways, but to discern,
The balance that keeps our hearts a burn.

In the shadows of selfishness, we see,
That our compassion isn't a one-way spree.
We'll navigate with grace, steadfast and free,
Learning to cherish our own hearts, you and me.
