NIALL POV
I took my seat on the airplane. I sat down on the outer seat of the two seats. I closed my eyes, and tried not to think about anything, but everytime I tried I got more worried. I don't know if doing this was a good idea.
The flight attendant began to explain some safety procedures, but I didn't pay attention to any of it. I was thinking of what was going to happen next. Will I be fine over there by myself? I was nervous and sad at the same time.
What will happen from now on?
"Excuse me, can I get in that seat please?" A girl about my age with blonde hair said to me smiling. I looked at her, and then let her through. I put in my headphones and tried to listen to something that could calm me down. A song that started playing, was "My Immortal" by Evanescence. Way to calm me down. I wanted to cry when it was ten seconds into the song. The piano instrumental start made me really depressed.
I took out the earbuds and put them away. I wanted to cry so badly, but I held it in. I shut my eyes, to not let any tears break out. It was so hard to not cry. There was a lump in the back of my throat, and each time I tried holding in my tears, it hurt my heart a little. Please, Niall you can get through this.
I felt someone touch my hand, and it was the girl next to me, "Hey, are you feeling alright?" she asked in a gentle way that calmed me a bit. I didn't think I would be able to talk normal right now, so I just replied with a 'mhm'.
"My name's Ashley, you could call me Ash if you want." She said. She was a very bubbly person. "I know something is wrong, do you want to talk about it?" She asked. I shook my head. I couldn't talk right now, you would be able to tell that I was crying, and if I said anything, I think my tears would burst out.
"I understand, you don't have to tell me if you don't want." She said again. I just nodded. The airplane began to move, and made its way down the runway. Within a few seconds, we were in the sky. I already made it this far, I can't turn back now. I was tired still from waking up so early so I went to sleep.
[One Hour Later]
In an hour, I woke up. I felt more refreshed now. The light was directly shining through the windows now. "Good Morning!" A female voice said. I looked to where it came from. It was Ashley.
"Hey, morning." I replied smiling. She looked at me, "So.. uh...." she paused and looked at me. I forgot I hadn't told her my name yet. "Niall." I spoke up.
"So Niall, let's be friends." She grinned. I went along and said, "Okay, sure!"
We talked for hours, I hadn't realized that we were almost at L.A. until the pilot announced that we would be landing in ten minutes. Anyways, I made a new friend. I found out so many things about her. She had a step-brother, a mom, and a step-dad; she was going to Los Angeles, because she had also applied for the studying abroad program. I was feeling more confident in myself now, and told her some of my stuff; like that I was gay, and leaving my friends back in Chicago. I didn't tell her about Zayn yet though. During the time we spent together, I found out that we both had similar interests, it felt like we could really become real best friends.
The rest of the day passed by so quickly, the next thing I knew, I was on campus and getting ready for bed. I looked for my diary, I had to write down all of this, my experience here. However, I just remembered I must have left it in Chicago. I guess I'll have to buy a new journal tomorrow.
The next day, I called Ashley and asked her if she wanted to go to Target with me. "Sure, I have to buy something too." She replied.
"Okay great, see you at the gate in fifteen minutes." I said and hung up. I still haven't unpacked my things yet, I was too lazy, I stuck my hand in the suitcase and randomly grabbed out a shirt. In about ten minutes, I made my way over to the main entrance, and waited for Ash. In the distance, I saw Ashley talking to a guy and gave him a big hug. When she saw me, she started walking towards me.
"Hey Niall, this is Andrew, my brother- well erm, my step-brother." Ashley said. He looked tall and muscular, blonde with gray eyes. He smiled at me, and then turned to to Ashley, "Ash, I gotta go somewhere, see you later." He said to her looking at me, then walking away. Ashley nudged at me and then pulled me along.
We walked down the street and a Target came to view. Right after we walked in, Ashley told me she was going that way, and went off in that direction. I walked into an isle where notebooks were, and I saw a small journal. It was plain and simple, didn't have so much designs on it. It was perfect.
I took out my phone and called Ashley,
"Ash, I'm ready, where are you?" I asked. She responded, "I'm still looking for something, just wait for me at the starbucks." I had no idea what she was looking for, but it was not my business, so I didn't ask. I paid for my stuff, and went over to the starbucks to ordered a Green Tea Frappuccino, then took a seat.
About fifteen minutes later, I finished my drink, and saw Ashley come towards me.
"Niall, are you ready to go?" she asked me, with a purchased bag in her hand. I nodded and followed her out. Wow, the sky grew so dark so fast. I was getting a little hungry.
"Ashley, I'm hungry." I complained. "Me too." She said. We went back to campus, and ate a bit of everything at the food court. The food here didn't taste as great as the food back in Chicago.
I miss it already. That night I began to write a new diary entry. I made a promise to myself that I would write a new entry every single week for the next year.
9/21/13
Dear diary, today's been a great day. I just got off the airplane yesterday and met this amazing girl. We both had a lot of things to talk about. I think I may fit in just fine. I told her about most of my things, and she told me all about hers; man, was she open.
Ashley is such a nice person. I love her personality so much. I don't know how much I've mentioned this, but she is such a bubbly person, I love bubbly.
Anyways, today marks off the first day in L.A. Classes don't start until next tuesday. Until then, I could have all the fun I want.
I think it'd be best for me to not worry about anything for now. I should be having the best time of my life, and forget about Zayn.
I didn't even think about him one bit since I've gotten here, maybe I'm starting to move on already. But, yeah, it's getting late now. I should get some sleep.
